The answer to losing weight spontaneously is to make the gut smarter by bringing the enteric nervous system (the brain in your gut) back online and in control of your food choices. When this happens, the enteric nervous system (or ENS) can override the cravings and other negative effects being initiated by opportunistic gut bacteria that play into the cycle of food addiction. The best way to do that is to fix the digestive system, cultivate a gut environment that allows good bacteria to flourish, improve nutrient absorption, and reverse the brain’s neuroadaptation to toxic foods so the ENS can heal and start working again. This is a big part of what my new book, The Prime, accomplishes for you.
As your gut becomes smarter, its communication with your brain can resume and become stronger and clearer. Finally, your conscious mind will begin to remember and understand which foods are toxic. As your ENS begins to reassert its control, your body will respond appropriately when you eat something toxic or harmful by making you feel nauseated or “spacey.” Your body will immediately try to flush it out, which could result in vomiting or diarrhea or stomach pain. You will begin to notice this rejection of certain foods when your gut becomes smarter and this is precisely why weight loss won’t involve willpower. It will be spontaneous because your body will be rejecting the foods that lead to weight gain as well as flushing out the toxins that have accumulated.
The bottom line is that you don’t need more willpower. You need a smarter gut. This is why you can be smart in other areas of your life, such as in your career or personal life, but still not able to change how you eat. It is not a personality flaw. It is a gut bacteria flaw.
Even better news is this: If you thought your brain was smart before, just wait until your gut becomes smart, too. This was my biggest surprise. I always thought I was pretty smart, but once I repaired my digestion, I became smarter and more creative than I ever imagined I could be, and I see the same thing happening with my patients. So many of them launch new careers or get promoted in their current ones after completing my program. They start companies. They find better relationships. They thrive. A dysfunctional gut leads to a dysfunctional brain, but a smarter gut leads to a smarter brain and a smarter life.
How smart is the brain in your gut? How functional is your brain-gut connection? How much damage has your enteric nervous system sustained? How easy will it be for you to reverse the dysfunction and start healing? You’ve probably heard of an IQ test. Maybe you’ve even taken one. But have you taken a Gut IQ test? Take this Gut IQ test to see just how smart or dumb your gut is so that you can decide just how slow or fast to complete the program in my new book, The Prime.
This is an extraordinary breakthrough, Kulreet. It is so simple that some individuals may have to read it again to really understand the profundity and effectiveness of The Prime. I thank you for reaching out to humanity to help them to overcome this dreaded obesity epidemic that so troubles our society. I am anticipating really great testimonials from those who are following your detox program!
Dr. Chaudhaury, do you drink the tea, 4-5 cups all day, or for the entire week?
You drink 4-5 cups throughout the day. What I do is put it in a thermos and keep it on my desk and then I sip it throughout the day.
Best,
Dr. KC
what kind of guggulu do i order for the prime? I see a few varieties. Kaishore, Yogaraj, Kanchanar etc…
please advise thank you,
C.
Just pure guggul:

Hi Dr,
I am in stage 3 of the Prime & it has been amazing! Spent a month in stage 1, 2 months in stage 2, & just moved into Stage 3 a week ago. I expected the symptoms to be intense but I am not really feeling anything? I have more vivid dreams & am a bit more tired but that’s about it…how long does the guggul take to begin working? Looking forward to the transformation. The Prime up until now has been life changing & I have recommended it to everyone that talks to me about wellness. Thank you so much for developing this amazing program!!! Shumi
Hi Shumi,
Happy to hear you’re enjoying The Prime. The Guggul essentially supercharges all the other herbs in The Prime. If you’re not feeling a major effect from it, you can try and doubling the dose. If that doesn’t work, then sometimes an in person visit with an ayurvedic practitioner may be in order.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks Dr. Curious bc you recommended seeing someone in-person: do you think there is something wrong with me that the guggul is not working? Should I be worried? I felt intense detox symptoms in phase 1. Phase 2 was pretty easy but took me a few days to adjust to the ashwaghanda & brahmi, but I def feel the difference having done the program! Find it so odd that phase 3 isn’t working? Thanks, Shumi
Hi Shumi,
I don’t think there is anything wrong. It’s just difficult for me to give any specific recommendations via email.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC, what if I want to drink more than 4 to 5 cups? I find myself craving it.
Max of 8 per day…
I have used amrit (both forms) from MAPI for lots of years. SHould I stop using it while following the Prime phases? Also, do you recommend drinking kombucha (homemade without extra flavors) during the Prime program. Thanks!
Hi Carol,
You can still take Amrit. I would suggest being careful with kombucha. Unless you know you’re specifically Kapha. Fermentation is not so good for people with pitta.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr.
I started stage 1 of the Prime about 2 weeks ago and I am enjoying the tea SO MUCH. In the past I would drink multiple cups of coffee and caffeinated black tea throughout the day, but No longer want to do that. is there any reason why I can’t have more than 4-5 cups of prime tea per day instead?
Thank you,
Loz
Hi Loz,
Happy to see your enjoying it. You can go up to 8 cups a day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Tom, Thanks for the insightful words and all the encouragement of the years!
Kulreet
I am starting on Phase 3 today. I wanted to see why I might be gaining weight instead of loosing weight. My cravings have certainly gone down and I am eating less. My belly looks like it is extended and with that I have gained 5 lbs. Any reason this is possible. I was OK with it thinking OK, phase 3 I will loose this but I wondered if this has happened before
Hello Joanne,
I believe you’re referring to The Prime Club. Sometimes the program in The Prime requires more personalized approach and that’s why we set up The Prime Club. However, since I moved to India to work on projects here, the health coach program has been discontinued. Are you adding Manjishta to The tea? If not, you may want to try that.
You may also want to join a FB group called Our Prime Journey. Finally you can also trya nd geta consultation with Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary at The Chopra Center: https://chopra.com/mind-body-medical-group
I think you tried contacting me through the website as well… I’ll send the same message there.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Starting your program for ms. I have leaky gut, candida, and heavy metal suspicions, from I take it the prime heals the gut but Do you recommend taking probiotics during? Or any candida killers or metal detoxifiers? (Currrntly can not handle any msm, alpha liopic acid, etc) Like once bowls begin to move or will the prime detox things naturally? Should you wait on probiotics and probiotic food till after program? As in the whole “can’t plant flowers in a garbage dumb” theory. A lot I know but any info greatly appreciated. Thank you❤
Hi Alexandra,
You can take probiotics while on The Prime. You may want to do abhyanga. It’s a self oil massage that can remove heavy metals without the deleterious side effects of chelation therapy. Here’s some info on it:
http://www.mapi.com/ayurvedic-knowledge/massage/benefits-of-an-ayurvedic-abhyanga-massage.html#gsc.tab=0
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Is this safe to do when pregnant or breastfeeding?
In general I don’t recommend doing any type of a detoxification while pregnant because you mobilize the toxins in your body which can be circulated to the baby. So I would recommend waiting until after pregnancy and after finishing breast feeding.
Warmest Regards,
Dr. KC
Went to the site myvpk and can not find the Prime Tea or the spices to order and make the tea. Help. In town it is expensive and most don’t sell the seeds.
Hi Frank,
On the MAPI website, they sell the premixed seeds (nice and convenient) and call it Organi Digest & Detox tea. Here’s a link:
http://www.mapi.com/products/herbal-beverages/ayurvedic-teas/digest-and-detox-tea.html#gsc.tab=0
You can also find the individual herbs at banyanbotanicals in their bulk herb section. Here’s their link:
http://www.banyanbotanicals.com/shop/category/bulk-herbs-spices-formulas/
Both are excellent. If you get it through banyan, make sure to get the whole seeds, not the powder.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Does it matter if I use powder instead of seeds for the tea. I purchased the coriander and cumin in powder form by mistake. Thanks, Margie/NY
Hi Margie,
It is better to use the whole seeds. If you use the powder, it can make the tea too strong and cause some abdominal discomfort.
All the best,
Dr. KC
I travel a lot and can’t boil the tea as prescribed. Is it possible to use the powder in smaller amounts instead?
Hi Chris,
I travel a lot as well. I usually premix the 3 spices in equal amounts and put them in a zip-lock bagggie. Then I scoop out 1 teaspoon of the mixture and steep it in hot water wherever I go. I’ve even pre-filled empty tea bags and had the tea on the pane. I would avoid using the powders as it can make the tea too strong.
All the best,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC,
Thank you for your quick reply. So the tea ingredients don’t need to boil for 5-10 minutes. Just steeping them in hot water for a few minutes will be adequate. Correct? In this case using hotel coffee machines to get some hot water (which is usually not at boiling temperature) and steeping the tea is sufficient.
Thanks for a great program.
Best,
Chris
Hi Chris,
It is best to boil the water, but if you can’t do that, then yes steeping in hot water is ok to do. Caution with hotel coffee makers, make sure they’re clean so you don’t get any unwanted caffeine in the te.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks for your replies Dr. Another traveling questions: how do I manage to get the prime juice prepared on the road?
Hi Chris,
You may need to find a local juice bar wherever you are and ask them to make it for you. I’ve done this at Whole Foods. You maay not be able to get the exact ingredients, but a general rule of thumb is 90% veggies and 10% fruit (for flavor).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary
My wife and I are about half way through your book and are looking forward to starting the Prime. We have 13 yo twins , one with ADHD and one with high functioning autism and celiac disease. Our whole family has been gluten free for several years with very little processed food and have done well. We would like our whole family on the Prime but I can’t see our boys doing things like sipping on tea. They are behind in maturity (about 4 lb 9 weeks early) so I know their brains have catching up to do. Are there special recommendations for kids in their situation?
First of all, congratulations on making a commitment as a family! This is the most transformative way to approach The Prime. I’m very excited for you.
What I would recommend is that you start your twins very slowly on the supplements in The Prime from stage 1 and 2. What I mean by this is adding only one supplement a month and allowing their bodies and minds to adjust. The supplements in Stages 1 and 2 in particular will actually help the underlying neurological issues. For the tea in stage 1, try to see if they will take one cup in the morning and one cup in the afternoon/early evening. You can add the bone broth to other soups to make it more palatable and just see if they’ll eat it. Whenever you make the juice, just offer them a little bit and see if they’ll drink it, but nothing too forceful. When you get to stage 3, very gently add the Guggul (at 250mg) every other day or possibly even less frequently at first. Slowly increase the dose as they tolerate because they will have more difficulty with the detoxification process. The same goes for the ginger gut flush—start very slowly in small amounts and make sure it’s not too heating for them (i.e. causes rashes or irritation). The meditation in stage 4 is going to be extremely helpful if they are willing to participate. If you turn meditation into a family event, kids are more likely to get involved.
In summary, the twins are going to have to go much slower on the program and in spurts according to their likes and dislikes for the different foods mentioned in The Prime. It may even take up to a year to fully complete it—that’s OK! As you and your wife complete the program, your new state of mental clarity is going to have an impact on them so don’t underestimate the affect your success will have on the entire household.
I wish you tremendous success on this journey!
Dr. KC
Thanks so much. That helps a lot. Excited to get started.
Great! Let me know how things go for your family…
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Will you experience major bloating when you first start the detox?
Hi Christie,
In general you shouldn’t experience major bloating. That being said, if you do experience significant symptoms, it’s an indication that you should move through the stages of The Prime at a slower rate. For example, if you start the Gut Healing Tea and you get bloating, then perhaps start with only 1/4 teaspoon of the seeds or take the tea only every other day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you I will try that. The first three days were bad then I had some relief, but it is back again. Even though I am able to have a bowel movement I still feel very constipated. But that is usually how I feel that is why I am trying this. I am also afraid of using psyllium husks, because in the past that has cause bloating and constipation. I also gained weight the first 4 days, I am hoping it is just from being bloated.
Hi Christie,
Any weight gain is probably from lymph accumulation (water weight). Make sure you’re doing the self massage with the silk gloves– this will help. If your still having symptoms, then just drink hot water without the seeds throughout the day. Also if you’re taking the triphala, it may “worsen” constipation. This is because it’s moving toxins, which are sticky and sludge-like. The answer is a little more fiber. If you can’t take the psyllium, then make sure to at least take the flax seed.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks for posting this reply; I’ve been experiencing bloating since I started too. I’ll do the tea every other day, and perhaps take stage 1 for two months instead of the month I’d planned. Love your book and message! I do notice that my desire for coffee with dairy is down, a lot.
Hi Ingrid,
Slower is always better when you want to make long lasting changes. Keep it up and more cravings will fall to the way side.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
What type of diet or meal plan do I follow while I am on the prime program? Do I eat clean???
Hi Anne,
In The Prime, I don’t tell you what to avoid eating. Rather, as you follow the program, your body will naturally start craving healthier foods and processed foods will fall to the way side. Thus you spontaneously start to “eat clean”. In chapter 9 of The Prime I do go into more detail about eating for your body type, but that is for after you’ve gone through the program.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
What can I add to make the tea taste better? Honey, stevia? a cinnamon tea bag?
In general you don’t want to add anything to the tea. I’m not a big fan of artificial or zero calorie sweeteners. And do not add honey to the tea; it will cause an accumulation of ama (ayurvedic term for toxins).
Depending on your Dosha (body type) you can add a little cinnamon or a squeeze of lemmon. However, I caution you about doing this as I don’t know your Dosha.
All the best,
Dr. KC
I am Pitta. is it ok to add an herbal tea bag to it?
You can probably add a little cardamom to the tea. You can also get Pitta tea from MAPI.com. But once again, only if your truly Pitta.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
just been classified as a type II diabetic and have been put on blood pressure medication…is the program still recommended, as many other ‘diets’ address this…
Hi Ken,
The Prime dose work for Type 2 Diabetics. It’s not a diet as such; however, it works well with pretty much any diet you choose. It helps repair your digestive system thus reducing inflammation in the body. When you do The Prime, you naturally start making healthier food choices instead of relying on willpower.
All the best,
Dr. KC
Is there a vegan option for the prime broth?
Hi jackie,
Bone broth is ideal because of the specific types of nutrients it offers, but another option is vegetable broth if you simply cannot do bone broth. As a vegetarian, this was a big leap of faith for me too and I found that doing the bone broth temporarily made a big difference. You don’t have to continue the bone broth beyond The Prime, but again, vegetable broth can be used in place of the bone broth.
All the best,
Dr. KC
Hi.
For the vegetable broth, is there any vegetables that are more advantageous than others?
Thanks
I would avoid vegetable broth that relies too much on mushrooms.
Hope this helps,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
First off, I have to tell you how much I am enjoying your book. I often find myself yelling “Yes” because I can relate so well to the things you are saying. I am very excited to start your program. I NEED to loose 70 lbs, and I am hoping your book will finally be the key to success for me. My question for you is about calorie counting/portion control. I am so worried about gaining more weight, especially when during the early stages of prime there really are no food menus to follow. I am so used to programs that are structured, whether it be counting points or following specific menus , to keep me on track. How should I plan my meals? Should I plan on eating clean and preparing foods that sound good to me and eat portions that leave me satisfied, not full? This is the part I am most nervous about. I trust you and will trust the process. Thank you for writing such an informative book. I can’t wait for my Stage 1 Prime products to arrive so I can get started!
Hi Kim,
I understand your concern. The Prime isn’t your typical diet which tells you what and how much to eat. It can be unnerving not to have that structure. The nice thing is that as you go through the stages, your body will naturally choose foods that are good for it, and the unhealthy ones will fall to the way side.
Should to answer your question, eat foods that satisfy you and to a point where you feel comfortable, but not too full.
All the best,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much for the speedy reply. I can’t wait to get started!
All the best!
Kim
One last question (for now). Is there a video out there that demonstrates the lymphatic massage? I am worried I wont do it correctly.
Kim
Hi Kim,
Thanks for the suggestion, I should make one… Until then, here’s an ok one I found on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXObky58mIk
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
The video you posted is super helpful, thanks. And similar to how you describe the lymph massage in the book. But in this other online article you describe it differently – which should we follow – the long strokes toward the heart as in the book and video? Or the back and forth motions as in the article linked here? https://www.sharecare.com/health/traditional-medicine/how-raw-silk-glove-massage
Also, with regard to a support group – would it be a problem for us to create a FB support group for those of us going through the Stages to share stories, etc?
Hi Kim,
Do it as I described in the book and video.
I think it’s fine if you start a Prime support group. If you don’t mind sharing the link, then I can advertise on my FB page and follow along. I thinks it’s a great idea, I’m just too busy to implement it at this time.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello,
I am super excited about this program. I am in stage 1 and because of my toxic levels will be on it for 4 weeks. I have many health issues, many of them that have to do with inflammation. Question: I have been on the tea and am taking the Triptala and husks and seeds at night. I have done so for a week now and I am completely exhausted. How long should I expect to feel ‘bad’ before I start feeling better?
Hi Rhonda,
It’s good that you are moving through the stages slowly. If your having a lot of fatigue come out, it’s most likely because you had a lot of stored up toxins you need to come out. There isn’t a standard answer for how long it lasts, but it will get better. In my experience, people usually turn the corner around week 2-3, but it may take longer.
Hang in there,
Dr. KC
Thank you! I will report back at the 3 week mark and let you know so we can share with others.
Thanks Rhonda, that would be great!
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC,
I am ending my 4th week on Stage 1 and am really beginning to see some positive changes. First, I want to let others know that the horrible feeling I was having at the beginning of the program ended around week 3 as you stated was typical. I have Fibromyalgia and Osteroarthritis along with other health issues so the chronic fatigue was familiar but not welcomed in the beginning. However, the benefits definitely outweigh the negative effects in the beginning. If some of you have similar issues, be patient! You will see improvement. The most exciting is my short term memory loss. My husband cannot believe it! I really thought I was headed for early dementia.
Thank you, doctor, for investing so much time and care into your book and patients. You are truly a pioneer in where I would like to see western medicine head.
Thanks,
Rhonda
Hi Rhonda,
Thank you for sharing your experience. I hopw it will help others in similar shoes as your own.
With much appreciation,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary, I just finished reading your book and am excited to start the program. I had a question about the tea. I have tested as having intolerance to cumin, and have experienced stomach pain when eating it in powdered form. Should I make any adjustments to the amount of cumin seeds in the tea? Thank you!
Hi Kelly,
First of all, I am happy to hear you bought the book and found it helpful. It is important to use the whole seeds in the tea and not the powder. The powder can make the tea too concentrated. If you can’t tolerate cumin, then first make the tea with just coriander and fennel for a week. If your intolerance to cumin is not an allergic reaction, then add in a small amount of cumin to the tea– say 1/8 of a teaspoon. Then you can see how you react with the cumn vs without. You can slowly increase the cumin as tolerated. If you do have allergies to cumin, then make the tea with coriander and fennel only.
All the best,
Dr. KC
I travel a lot and it’s impossible for me to boil water in hotel rooms to ,make the tea. Is there another way to fix this tea? Like teabags? Without boiling it for 5-10 minutes.
Thanks
To add more info to your question, yes you can but empty tea bags. Here’s a link on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Filter-Bags-Disposable-Infuser-Filters/dp/B010RV810W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1454350797&sr=8-2&keywords=empty+tea+bags
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. Chaudhary,
When steeping tea bags for the Prime tea (for those of us who travel often), does it still provide the full benefits even though the water is only hot and not boiling during the steeping process?
Additionally, you mentioned being able to purchase a healthy brand of Bone Broth near you… unfortunately the audiobook supplemental PDF did not include the section of the book in which you referenced your recommendations. Could you please let me know what brand and/or specifics you look for when buying medicinal Bone Broth at the Health Food Store (again, with traveling this would be easier to purchase if I know of a brand that’s safe/beneficial)?
I appreciate your help and look forward to cleansing out this ama with the Prime very soon, thanks again!! 🙂 I look forward to your reply!
Hi Penny,
I love your enthusiasm!
It’s best to boil the tea, but if you need to, steeping in hot water is ok.
This is where i get my bone broth if I don’t have time t make it: https://www.bonebroth.com/
I hope this helps,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. Chaudhary,
I learned a lot from the book and plan on starting Phase 1 next week. I’m curious about whether I should continue taking my current herbal regimen? I’m taking herbs specifically for PMS symptoms Thanks!
Hi Dawn,
I recommend that people continue their current herbal and medical regimens when they start The Prime. It won’t contradict anything you’re doing now as most of The Prime treatments are whole food based.
I hope your really enjoy The Prime,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
My family and I are beginning the first stage of the Prime. We are five in all. This means I will have to boil 25 cups of water daily with the seeds. Do I add 1/2 tsp of each seed x’s 5? Also I was wondering if it’s ok to prepare the night before as my husband gets up earlier than me and I would like him to have it to bring to work?
Hi Tara,
Good for you guys!!! It’s always best to make the tea fresh, but if you have to make it ahead of time, that’s ok. It’s better to have the tea than not… You can just add 2 teaspoons of each of the seeds to make the whole batch.
Let me know how the tea works out!
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary!
My husband and I started The Prime two weeks ago. The first few days we both noticed some strong detox symptoms but are feeling much better now. We’re going to use beef broth instead of chicken since my husband is allergic to poultry, but my real concern is that he takes an anti depressant and I’m worried how The Prime will affect him later on.
Hi Laura,
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.
In general I don’t recommend beef broth because the larger and more intelligent the animal, the harder it is to keep it healthy, especially under our current farming standards. I would recommend either goat broth or fish broth or vegetable broth if neither of the other options are available.
That being said, if you are very confident about the quality of the beef bones being used and ensure that the animal has been humanely treated, then you can use beef bone broth.
Also regarding the depression, most people who complete The Prime are able to either reduce or completely eliminate their use of antidepressants, but that should be done under the care of a physician and typically the medications need to be slowly tapered off over the course of several months.
All the best,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much for your reply! I was thinking I’d order the beef broth from the place you mentioned in the book, The Brothery (mostly because I’m not a great cook so ordering it is much easier for me), but I’ll check around for goat or fish broth too.
Thanks again!
Hi again,
I also was wondering if it is ok for my daughter to be doing The Prime. She is 14yrs. old and had a stage II Wilm’s tumor which was removed along with her kidney in November. She has three chemotherapy treatments left. With only one kidney, is the detoxing a problem? Her blood work is monitored weekly.
Hi Tara,
Your daughter should do fine on The Prime. However, she should go on a very slow schedule– say each stage lasting 2 months. And of course always follow your doctor’s advise. Finally, AFTER she is done with ALL of her chemo, she may want to try an herb called Amrit Nectar: http://www.mapi.com/products/herbal-supplements/immunity-antioxidants/amrit-kalash-products.html?whence=#gsc.tab=0
All the best,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much!
DEAR DR. CHAUDHARY, I STARTED THE PRIME PROGRAM JUST ABOUT A WEEK AGO. WHEN WILL I SEE SOME IMPROVEMENT IN MY BODY? ALSO WILL THIS PROGRAM HELP MY SKIN AND HAIR?
Hi Grace,
It depends on each individual as to when they notice changes. In general at around a month, but depending on how many toxins the person has to start moving, it may take longer. In my experience, The Prime does help with skin issues in the long run. However, people can sometimes notice a brief worsening of symptoms before they see an improvement– once again, that is because they are moving toxins.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
THANK YOU FOR PROMPT ANSWER
Dear Dr. Chaudhary,
I have completed 6 days of stage one of Prime and feel pretty cruddy (headache, gassy, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort) after eating foods that I used to eat all the time. I assume these side effects are directly related to the detox that is occurring in my body, correct? I know it will take time to resolve itself. My question is, if after eating a meal I feel discomfort, how do I know which food or ingredient in the meal may be making my body feel uneasy so that I can cut it out. I know the book states that I do not need to cut anything out of my diet at this point, but to listen to my body for signs. I am just unsure how to do this if my meal contains a few different ingredients. Thank you so much for you time 🙂
Kim
Hi Kim,
Yes, this is actually a good sign that you’re moving toxins. The amount of discomfort is proportional to the amount of toxins that need to get out of your system. The second part of your question is a little trickier. Because you may no know exactly what foods are causing the issue. In this case, I usually suggest people avoid anything raw (vegetables, salads, etc) or cold (ice water, cold beverages, etc)
Try that first, and lets see how you feel in a week.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Is it typical to get indigestion with the tea?
Hi Danielle,
It’s not typical, but it can happen if someone his having a significant detox. You can cut out the seeds and just drink hot water for 2 days, then you can restart the seeds at 1/2 dose for 2 days, then full dose.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. Chauhary,
I love your book! I have been trying to control IBS symptoms by following Monash University low FODMAP diet without much success. I was still bloating terribly almost every time I ate, or even drank water, and I have been constipated for months. Your book makes so much sense. If I heal my gut, maybe I wont have to be scared about eating, and measuring and counting even the foods that are allowed! (1/8 avocado, 10 almonds, 1 cup green beans, etc.) I am only in Stage One and I am already feeling much better. I got a 38 on the quiz, so I am trying to hold myself back from jumping ahead to Stage Two. I am really excited about this and feel blessed to have accidentally found your book. I am looking forward to seeing if I lose some weight, too. I have lost 5 pounds in the first week of Stage One.
My question is about my daughter. She is 16 and has been significantly overweight for many years. She took the quiz and only got a 6. She says her digestion is great and that she has a regular bowel movement daily. Does this mean that there are other reasons for her weight problem, (she struggles with cravings and overeating, but not enough to account for her excess weight) or would it still make sense for her to try The Prime? I doubt she will drink Prime Tea and certainly wont drink the flax/psyllium! As you advised the couple with the 14 year old twins, could I just give her all the supplements you suggest? Since her digestion is good, maybe that means she will be able to absorb ashwaraganda/brahmi and guggul? I want to help her without making a big deal about her need to lose weight as I don’t want to hurt her self esteem.
Thank you again for your help so far. Sorry this is so long. I look forward to your response.
Hi Rebecca,
I’m happy to hear your positive results. Whenever, you’re battling digesting foods, you can either eliminate those things that you can’t tolerate, or you can strengthen your digestion. The Prime focuses on the latter, so that you can start to enjoy more foods in life.
With your daughter, sometimes it’s not a problem with elimination, but rather a problem of absorbing nutrients properly. Before you jump into the herbs, I would start her by just drinking 4-5 cups of hot water a day (tea without th tea). Do this for a good month and have her take the triphala at night. After she’s improved her digestion, then she can move onto the other herbs. Otherwise, she may not set herslf up for success.
All the best,
Dr. KC
Thank you, Dr. Chaudhary. It is amazing to be able to contact you like this. Thank you so much. Your suggestion about my daughter’s situation makes sense. She only likes to drink cold water with ice, so getting her to drink plain hot water will be difficult! Is there an herbal tea that you think would be OK for her instead of plain hot water? (and I will give her the triphala at night). Also, she will be seeing a new pediatrician soon and I can request bloodwork. What do you suggest I ask to have tested? Is there something that would show evidence of malabsorption? Again, thank you for writing this book. I had to quit my job because of IBS symptoms and I am looking forward to getting healed and getting my life back, thanks to you.
Hi Rebecca,
There are several teas that can help. The one I think “tastes” the best is Worry Free Tea:
http://www.mapi.com/products/herbal-beverages/ayurvedic-teas/worry-free-tea.html#gsc.tab=0.
Unfortunately, I can’t give actual medical advise online, so I will have to defer that question to your daughter’s new pediatrician.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you for the tea suggestion! I understand about you not being able to suggest what to ask for in the bloodwork. Thank you. I will pursue that with the new doctor.
My daughter is impressed that I have lost eight pounds in one week on Stage One of The Prime, and I am thinking she may even be willing to try Prime Tea and maybe even drinking the flax/psyllium since this is clearly working for me. I feel so much better– it’s amazing. I have been really sick with bloating and constipation for the last year, and for about the last five years (early menopause) unable to lose more than a couple of pounds no matter what I tried, and then I’d gain it back. This is so exciting. Thank you again, so very much!
Hi Rebecca,
Actually leading by example is the best thing you can do for your daughter… Good for you!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC,
Dr. SC recommended that I read The Prime and I’m so glad that he did! I have 100+ pounds to lose but have struggled due to hypothyroidism and hormone issues. I’m taking Armor and am on HRT but my weight, memory fog and lethargy just won’t seem to go away. I am into my second week of Phase 1 and have added Manjistha to my tea because I was recently told (before I started the Prime) that my liver is enlarged. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to dissolve and although I’ve attempted it several times, I just don’t like the texture/flavor of the Manjistha powder. Can I sprinkle it over my food or fill capsules with it instead and still get the same effect?
Hi Sabrina,
I’m happy to hear you got the book and are giving it a try! Yes you can sprinkle the Manjistha powder ontop of food. It’s great at moving the lymphatics. One thing is, make sure that you’re doing the self body massage with the raw silk gloves. The two work synergistacly together.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. Chaudhary, I’m just beginning stage one. I’m really excited to get my digestion and health in order, I have bad acid re-flux. My question is I have Hashimotos and have read that I can’t have raw spinach, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower. What should I do when it’s time for the Prime Juice? Do I still drink it or skip it? Also I take Royal Maca for menopause is it ok to take ashwagandha with it since they’re both adaptogen’s? I love your book, I recommend it to everyone. Thank You So Much.
Hi Lisa,
Happy to hear you enjoyed my book. You can basically make any juice you’d like as long as it is in general 90% veggies and 10% fruit. That way you can avoid goitrogens. You can take both the Macao and the Ashwagandha; taking multiple adaptogens at the same time is reasonable.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank You so much. As I go through the stages will the acid reflux get better? I wake up with it and have it all day not just after I eat. I’ve weaned myself off Prevacid I was taking 30MG every morning. Now I’m taking 150MG of Ranitidine twice a day. I want to get off that as well, I don’t want to be on these medications anymore. My goal and hope is to have normal digestion and so many things give me bad acid. I was having problems with the tea but I was using 1/2 tsp. of ground cumin could that have been causing the burning with the tea? I’ve taken your suggestion on room temp water and warm liquids and my stomach felt a little better so I’m going to continue with that. I’ve noticed that with the 1 teaspoon of fiber I get constipated and have a lot of gas, will that get better the farther into stage 1 I get? Thank You for your help I really appreciate it.
Hi Lisa,
When coming off of PPI’s (Prevacid), you need to come off slowly. I usually have my patients decrease to 6 days a week, then 5 dos a week, 4-3-2-1. Then you can use it only as needed. You may also need to make dietary changes like avoiding spicy, fermented, fried, tomatoes, onion, garlic, and nuts. It’s basically the Pitta diet in the book. The bloating on the fiber should improve as your gut bacteria balance improves.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I just asked something similar in “contact” section but I figured I’d try here for others who may need…
“Hello. I am on the second phase of the Prime and I have been doing well up to now. I find that the prime juice (for hot days) tastes ok but hurts going down. Its painful once it passes my throat. Are any of the ingredients an aggravation? Is there anything that I can change without reducing the effects?”
Hi Lisette,
It depends. If you’re using Prime Juice #1, then it may be the lemon or ginger. If you’re doing Prime Juice #2, then it’s probably the lemon. Try omitting these ingredient(s) and see how you do.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I heard about your book from my friend Rebecca in the chat above. I am struggling with migraines and chocolate cravings but I am somewhat underweight from a lifelong battle with anorexia. She has experienced the spontaneous weight loss that is a side effect of your plan. I want to detox and heal my body, but can’t afford to lose any weight. Does The Prime only cause people to lose weight if they actually are carrying excess weight? Are there any modifications you would suggest for someone like me?
Hi Mariel,
The Prime was originally designed for my patients with MS and Migraines and isn’t actually a weight loss program. However, for those who need to loose weight, the corrections in their physiology does lead to weight loss. For those that don’t need to loose weight, then The Prime is still good for them. Because in those people, when you correct their physiology, they don’t loose weight, but their other problems (like migraines) resolve.
That’s along answer to say yes, The Prime should be ok for you to do.
All The best,
Dr. KC
I just finished your book, Prime and loved it. I am very interested in Panchakarma. Would you please tell me where in the US you go.
Thank you
Hi Micki,
There are several places. The 3 I know of are:
http://www.theraj.com
http://www.ayurveda.com
http://www.suryaspa.com
I hope that helps,
Dr. KC
Thank you for your prompt response
Can I do the dry-brush on my skin in the afternoon or night instead of the morning ? Then take a shower .
Hi Christine,
Yes you can. The only thing is don’t do it too late. It may be too stimulating before bedtime.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Quick update: I have now lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks – I did not make any changes in my moderate exercise program. I do feel less hungry and much less cravings. Still stuck in Stage 1 because I’m still not having a BM every day. About once every three days, but even with that, my chronic bloating after eating anything is gone! Should I increase triphala or increase flax/psyllium to correct the ongoing constipation so I can move on to Stage 2?
And, in regards to my daughter who you explained must have a malabsorption issue rather than a digestion problem: If she is willing to do all the elements of Stage 1, should she? Or does she even need the fiber drink since she has a BM every day? Should she just do Prime Tea and triphala and skip the fiber drink?
I am on the waiting list for Prime Club, by the way! I don’t mean to take advantage of you by continually asking for help on your blog!
Correction: I meant to say my daughter must have a malabsorption issue rather than an ELIMINATION problem.
Hi Rebecca,
For you- I would suggest you take the fiber mixture everyday. If you already are, then double the psyllium/ flax dose and take 4 triphala at night.
For your daughter- I would start out with just the tea and triphala. She would still benefit from the fiber independent of the BM’s. This is because in The Prime, I’m using the fiber as a prebiotic (food for your good gut bacteria).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I’m in my second week of Stage 1. My BMs have actually slowed since I started the program. If I understand correctly, that’s due to the ama. I have increased the triphala to 2000 mg. I have not experienced many ill effects of detoxification thus far, and I’m wondering if I should also increase the fiber mixture. Also, should I continue with 2000 mg for the duration of the program or drop back to 1000 mg once things are moving? Thanks! Kelly
Hi Kelly,
You’re absolutely correct! Continue the 2,000 mg for now, you can reduce the dose as thing start moving. Also increase the fiber to everyday. If your already doing it everyday, then increase it to twice a day. Lets see how that works.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr Chaudhury – I’ve just purchased your book an am starting the program. I have severe pain and neurological issues after a lightening strike and car accidents and have taken opioids for several years. Can the Prime help me even if I have to stay on the meds during the process? Should I keep taking my regular laxative even while I take the other supplements?
Hi Barbara,
Yes The Prime can help in your case by improving your gut bacteria. This in turn should reduce inflammation in your body. Keep taking all your meds and laxitives for now (don’t stop anything without consulting your doctor first).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello, I heard about your book from a friend and I’m wondering if it’s okay to do the Prime if I have CLL? Also, is psyllium okay to use if you only have loose stools, and BM is not even happening every day? I had heard that may cause loose stools in some so I wasn’t sure if I should avoid it.
Thank you, can’t wait to receive my book, just ordered it. I’m hoping you give me the green light for the program.
All the best,
Bella
Hi Bella,
Yes you can do The Prime if you have CLL. Many of the herbs are great anti-oxidants; especilly the amla (one of the herbs in triphala). It is ture that Psyllium can cause looser bowel movements. However, it is also being used as a source of pre-biotic for your healthy gut bacteria. Try just the flax first, then a week later add in 1/2 dose psyllium, then 1 week later the full dose. If you can’t tolerate the psyllium, you can try substituting it with Inulin fiber.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr. KC,
Thank you so much for your detailed response and a new hope. I received my book 1 day after ordering and have already started reading! I can’t wait to embark on a healthier journey per your suggestions and those you have made to others. It’s amazing you are dedicating such time to responding to questions as you do. Thank you so much and word of mouth seems to be spreading this good news like wildfire! I plan on letting our hospital know to check you out as well. Many thanks for your heartfelt care!
Sincerely,
Bella
Thank you for the kind words Bella!
Hi Dr Chaudhary
I have enjoyed your book and really feel this is a very positive program for my body. I am just starting stage 2. I had some detox symptoms on day three but otherwise it’s been reasonably smooth. I don’t have constipation issues – actually I tend toward multiple softer stools a day – should I expect that to change? I was surprised at how much I enjoy the tea and the juice. My two main questions are the manjista powder seems to overwelm the flavor of the other herbs – is this ok? Second, can I make the bone broth with the meat on the chicken carcass? Removing it along with the veggies and bones after the 24-48 hours. Or as I’d like to share some with my 16 yo son who likes chicken soup can I make chicken soup instead of vegetable soup out of it, sometimes?
I’ve always had deep respect for ayurvedic medicine but felt that it was too complicated for me to follow. Thank you for making this ancient wisdom so accessible and doable. Thank you also for your kind and gentle voice while imparting excellent information.
Best wishes,
Melissa
High Melissa,
The Manjishta powder is powerful herb. Try to take it if you can.
You can leave the meat in the soup– your son will benefit from the broth as well!
All the best,
Dr. KC
Thank you for your reply and to all your answers here. It is kind of you to take this time. Just a couple more questions. I really enjoy the prime tea, can I continue it later in the day if I don’t mind going to the bathroom more?
Also, I know this is a much bigger question but I’m watching my son go through a stressful time and he is going for the sweets much more than usual and I know it is a self fulfilling loop but he’s not interested in doing the whole prime. I immediately felt less cravings for sweets so I’d like to help him too. What would be the best smallest step to try to open this door for him?
Thanks again for your book and your time.
Best wishes,
Melissa
Hi Melissa,
I love answering all these questions! Yes you can drink the tea later in the day. I’m happy to see that you’re seeing the value of The Prime. I get the “family member” question a lot. I would say that the easiest baby steps to take are taking two triphala pills at night and a cup of hot water (tea without the tea) in the morning.
I hope this helps,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much! Be careful letting me know you like questions 🙂 because I have more.
I see the bone broth helping him already. Maybe i should start him on one triphala since he tends toward multiple soft stools a day already? I do too. Should I be seeing a change in this? Should I be doing anything differently if so? Oops another question, is there a specific amount of the bone broth per day?
Thanks again,
Melissa
Hi Melissa,
Yes Triphala would be a food thing to start. It helps with proper elimination and improves absorption of nutrients. 1 bowl a day of the bone broth should do…
No problem,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. KC,
I have three questions about the Prime that I’m hoping you can help answer:
1) The Triphala supplement I bought contains a total of 1,500mg of the three berries; 500mg each of amalaki, bibhitaki & haritaki. Should I be taking one or two of these nightly (I’m unclear if it’s a total of 1,000mg for all three berries, or 1,000mg of EACH berry)?
2) Is it necessary to shower immediately after the Garshana dry brushing? I’m wondering if I do the Garshana after dinner time, and shower first thing the next morning, would it have the same affect?
3) I take a number of supplements for prevention, should I stop taking anything other than a probiotic during The Prime? If these are all safe together, I would add my Ayurvedic herbs to the following supplements I currently take: Curcumin (CuraMed), Omega-3 (Vectomega), Bosweilia (BosMed 500), French Grapeseed Extract (Clinical OPC), and Propolis Extract (GH2002).
I appreciate your help very much, thank you in advance!!
Hi Michelle,
Great questions!
1) The triphala dose is a total of 1000mg. In your case, you can just take one of your triphala tabs at night.
2) You don’t need to shower right afterwards. The only thing is that doing the Garshana at night may be stimulating, so don’t do it too close to bed time. You may also have to urinate at night f you move too much lymph right before bed.
3) You can continue all your other supplements.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC,
Thanks for getting back to me, your clarification helped!! I appreciate it!
Hi Dr. KC
Thank you for writing The Prime, I’ve enjoyed reading it (and re-reading it). You’ve provided a simple but really effective structure to follow. I’m in Stage One and I’m experiencing slow but steady improvements in my GI system functioning every day.
I was taking ground/powdered triphala for a couple of weeks before I found and read your book. I was taking 1/4 teaspoon every night.
I bought capsule supplements after reading your book so I could follow your directions and the amounts more precisely, but I still have my ground triphala and I’d rather take it in that form in the long-term to supplement my diet.
What would the equivalent amount be in teaspoons to equal a 1,000 mg dose?
I’ve had to increase my tablet dose to 3,000mg since my system is pretty sluggish. After reading some of the posts on here, I’m going to try to increase my fiber intake to daily and see if that helps too. Hopefully once my GI system is rehabilitated I’ll be able to decrease the triphala to a maintenance dosage.
Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge and guidance, I greatly appreciate it!
with metta, kate
Hi Kate,
1/2 teaspoon is equivalent to approximately 1,000 mg of triphala. Yes, increase the fiber. Increasing the triphala by itself, can sometimes increase constipation by increasing the amount of toxins being excreted out through the colon.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks Dr. KC, that’s great to know. Is it better to increase the amount of fiber while still taking it every other day or take the same amount but take it daily?
with thanks,
kate
Hi Kate,
In your case, you can keep the same dose, but “double up” by taking it everyday.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Ok I’ll take 1 tsp each of the flax and psyllium every night with my triphala, starting tonight. Thanks again Dr. KC!
Dear Dr.Chaudhary
I have read The Prime and have started on Stage One of the progam and intend to follow through to the end. I have an over-active thyroid and am taking Carbimazole. (1 tablet one day and 1 1/2 the next day). I was wondering about the Ashwaghanda and Brahmi recommended in Stage Two. What would you suggest that I take as a substitute for these. Also, I get hot flashes and ginger usually increases their frequency and intensity, I am concerned about the Ginger Flush in Stage Three. If I skip this, will it still work/what do I take instead. Finally, I do not need to lose weight (actually I need to put on weight) what do I take instead of Guggul. Apologies for all the questions. However, I do hope you are able to shed some light on the questions I have raised. Many Thanks Lucia
Hi Lucia,
Carbimazole is not a medication we use in the USA, so I’m not 100% familliar with it. We use a medication called methimazole. You can omit the Ginger flush as well as the Guggul. You should be OK with the Ashwaganda as it’s a thyroid adaptogen. Meaning if the thyroid needs to work more, it helps it work harder. It the thyroid needs to work less, it allows it to work less. The Brhami should also be safe to use. You can start both at 1/2 the dose and then after 1 week, increase it them to full dose.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr. Chaudhary,
Thank you for your suggestions. I will definitely follow through. On another matter, I have been on Stage One of the The Prime for one week now and have one or two bowel motions per day but am still constipated. The second motion is usually better. How can I vary the dosage of the Triphala powder, Ground Flaxseeds and Psyllium. (Currently, I have one teaspoon of triphala powder and half a teaspoon each of ground flaxseeds and psyllium husks with one glass of water at bedtime.) I feel that the psyllium husks may be the problem – could this be right?
Many Thanks,
Lucia
Hi Lucia,
Try increasing the psyllium and flax to 1 full teaspoon each.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC
Thank you for your reply. I will definitely try that. I love your book ” The Prime” and have already re- read certain parts because the information is so interesting. Thank you for writing it and sharing your knowledge and experience about the ancient Ayurvedic healing wisdom of India.
Many Thanks
Lucia
🙂
Hi Dr. K,C
Is it better to use a slow cooker or pressure cooker to make the bone broth.
Many Thanks
Lucia
Hi Lucia,
I think slow cooker so that there’s plenty of time for the trace elements from the bones to get into the broth.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you Dr. KC
Your suggestions are very much appreciated.
Kind regards
Lucia
Hi,
I just started Phase 1 yesterday – except for the Triphala which is on order. Yesterday, I made the tea and drank it throughout the day. After drinking the last cup, I felt nauseated and got a headache. Today, I felt the same way each time I drank the tea – headache and nausea. I took a 3 hour mid-afternoon break from the tea and was feeling fine, then had a cup of the tea and immediately the headache and nausea returned. I wonder if it could be the cumin? Or is this a normal reaction? The headache is across my eyes, up to slightly above my eyebrows and the nausea seems to be seated right below my sternum, in the soft area between my rib cage on either side.
I love your book and this accompanying website!
Toni
Hi Toni,
Yes we can sometimes have detoxsynptoms when we start the Prime Tea and it sounds like this is what is happening to you. I would try and stick with it as things should improve after the first week. That being said, if the symptoms are too bad, then just drink hot water throughout the day (tea without the tea). Then every 2-3 days add 1 seed at a time. That way you can narrow it down if you’re not reacting well to one of the seeds.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Me again! Interestingly, if I just drink the tea I feel fine. But if I drink it and my stomach is not empty, I immediately get the headache and nausea. So it seems to be the combination of food with the tea (at least today that’s how it went:))
I will continue the tea tomorrow, but will try to drink it only on an empty stomach.
Thank you again for your speedy response!
Toni
Hi Toni,
Sounds like a good plan. You may also want to note which foods this is happening with, because if there is a pattern, it may be your body telling you those particular foods may not be good for you.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr KC,
I’m currently in week 3 of stage 1. The detox symptoms are mellowing out and much less intense now but I definitely still feel like my body is in spring-cleaning mode, so to speak, which is great. 🙂
Taking the fiber dose daily is working wonders for me and I love the CCF tea. My body craves the tea in the mornings now and I haven’t been craving caffeine or soft drinks. That’s unheard of for me, lol… I’m pleasantly surprised (shocked actually).
I’m doing garshana daily too and it’s making a bigger difference than I expected, wow dry skin brushing! It feels amazing to do, I’m a total garshana fan now 🙂
I do have a question about taking powdered herbs. I’m taking 1/4 tsp of manjistha powder in hot water every morning and evening.
Now that I’ve finished the bottle of triphala capsules I was taking, I’d like to take a tsp of triphala in hot water at night and take 1/2 tsp of the manjistha in hot water in the mornings. I’ll also still be drinking my water and psyllium/flax mixture (3 tsps each) at night too.
Does this sound like an alright way to take the herbs?
When I start taking the ashwaganda and bacopa in a couple of weeks, could i mix those two together in the same glass of hot water to drink? Or would it be better to take those in tablet form with breakfast and dinner?
with gratitude,
kate
Hi Katie,
Great news! Taking the herbs the way you described sounds perfect. And yes, you can add the future herbs in the same drink as well!
Dr. KC
That’s great to know, thank you again!
Dr. KC
I feel I am not handling the Prime Tea very well. I have been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and since starting “The Prime” some symptoms like a racing heart are starting to come back. At the same time I have had redness and a breakout of pimples around the mouth. I am concerned about the cumin seeds in the “Prime Tea”. It may be Pitta aggravating for me. Will it be okay to omit the cumin seeds and to make the tea using the corriander seeds and fennel seeds only. Will it still work though, or should I add something to it.
Many Thanks
Lucia
Hi Lucia,
Yes I remeber your hyperthyroidism. For a couple of days, just drink hot water (tea without the tea). Then when the symptoms have gone away add one spice at a time. First Fennel for 2-3 days, then coriander for 2-3 days. You can stay off the cumin for now, but at some point try to restart it (perhaps even just 1/8 of a teaspoon).
Sincerely,
Dr.KC
Dear Dr.KC
Thank you for your quick reply. I will follow your advice and see what happens.
Kind regards
Lucia
Hello again, Dr. Chaudhary!
I am still down 10-15 pounds since starting The Prime at the beginning of February. I lost 8 pounds in the first week, you may remember! Currently I weigh between 135 and 140 (it goes up and down, so maybe I still have Fake Fat?) but it is fantastic to be staying under 140 for the first time since having my third child 9 years ago! THANK YOU! I feel so much lighter, my clothes fit better, I don’t have to try to hide my bloated stomach, all thanks to you!
I am finally getting my chronic constipation under control, and most days, especially in the morning, my belly is perfectly flat. I am not worrying too much about following the Low FODMAP diet, which was the only way I was surviving prior to finding your book. However, yesterday I experienced moderate bloating again. I have reread every page in your book that mentions bloating. (I am still at the beginning of Stage 2 as I have had to move slow due to the severity of the constipation) so I haven’t started guggul yet. I do add fenugreek seeds to my Prime Tea, and I use manjista on my cooked vegetables.
My question is: when I experience bloating (as you mention you do every time you eat food that has been microwaved) is there any quick remedy you have found to help you reduce the bloating? Assuming I am out of the house or traveling when I am hit by a food induced bloating episode (which in my case usually takes about 16 hours to fully resolve) what is the best recourse?
I am about to travel out of the country for the first time in my life and I really want to be able to actually enjoy myself! I plan to bring tea bags and Prime Tea seeds plus fenugreek, and all my herb capsules, ground flaxseed and psyllium husks, too! — but if I eat something that makes me bloat I’d love to have something with me to help me fix it, at least a little bit!
Thank you so much for helping me get to this point. I had finally gotten so sick by the beginning of February that I had to quit my job that I loved. I am looking forward to continuing to get my life back, thanks to you.
Hi Rebecca,
Yes I remember you. This sounds great! Isn’t it nice to repair your digestion rather than avoiding foods?
Quick fix for bloating… Sometimes what I like to do is keep a baggie of just fennel seeds on me– usually in my car since I don’t really use a purse. That way if I get bloating I just take a pinch of the seeds and suck on them for around 10 minutes. Then afterwards, you throw the seeds out (don’t swallow them). That should help.
On a separate note, would you be comfortable if we used some of what you said in a future news letter? It’s always nice to inspire others with positive results like yours. Let me know. If not, then no worries.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you for the suggestion about the fennel seeds. (I was thinking you might suggest fenugreek) If I am able to get hot water and make tea, would plain fennel tea (as opposed to Prime Tea) be as beneficial or maybe even more beneficial than sucking the seeds? ( Knowing me I’ll probably accidentally swallow the seeds! ) Also, should I try to follow Low FODMAP at least somewhat while I continue to heal and apparently have not quite fixed my bloating? And yes, absolutely you may quote me in a newsletter. I have told my mom, sister, and best friends about The Prime. We’ve all bought our own copy of the book because there’s no way I’m giving up my copy to let anyone borrow it! Seriously, I was so sick by the beginning of February that I really couldn’t function (was scared to eat because I would bloat up huge all the way up to my chest, and couldn’t eliminate at all without a combination of enemas and laxatives. I saw a gastroenterologist who had no help for me about my symptoms but just scheduled me to come back in a month for an endoscopy to test for celiac disease (I already had positive blood test done by my general practictioner.) I researched and learned that even if I forced myself to eat gluten every day (and I was way too sick to choose to make myself sicker) the test might not show celiac disease if I hadn’t actually been eating enough gluten for a long enough time, and no one really knows how much and for how long is necessary! Anyway, I instead stumbled across The Prime when I was at my most hopeless and I am truly grateful. (I cancelled the pointless endoscopy!) I consider you my doctor now!
Hi Rebecca,
Hearing how well you are doing is the greatest compliment you could have given me. Thank you. It does make sense to be on a Low FODMAP diet as your gut heals. That’s becasue as you remove the offending agents, the gut has a better chance of healing quickly. Keep up the good work and thank you for you approval to use some of your words in an upcoming newsletter!
Any way you can Private Message me on FB (Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary)? It would be great to get a picture of you (and your whole family) holding The Prime. It would make the newsletter more personable 🙂
Thanks,
Kulreet
Hello Dr. Chaudhary,
I’ve been taking vitamins for a little while now, multi-vitamins and I just recently started drinking the tea you talk about in your book and taking the vitamins still. My question is should I discontinue the vitamins or continue to take them ? Anyhow, thanks in advance!
And I’d like to add that I quit smoking 3 years ago January because I wanted to work on being healthy. Set aside from the fact that I gained a horrible about of weight. I knocked my hormones off balance when I stopped smoking and I’m sure my thyroid as well and my metabolism, it dropped way down. My appetite left even more than it had. I was and have been finding it difficult to eat the required amount of calories recommended. I wasn’t hungry very much, but for some reason still kept gaining. Anyhow, I recently say you on Dr. Oz, a friend of mine told me I needed to watch that show and so I turned it on just as you were coming on. I researched your book and bought it. I’ve only been drinking the tea since this past Monday and do let me say, I’ve lost 4 pounds, almost 5. My appetite is back…YAYYYY!!! And I already feel thinner, though I have a long way to go. Thus far I’ve been doing the Tea with the Fenugreek and Ginger added (fresh), and I just got the Manjistha in the mail and yesterday (Friday was my first day with it). I’ve been doing the dry brush as well and taking the Triphala and I have the Flax seed and Psyllium as well. Because I’m not shy to most of these I’ve added the Ashwagandha as well. Some of the other things you have set aside for stages 2-4 I’ll be ordering to slowly add them to my daily routine. For the first time in a long time I feel good. I’ve been having trouble with the tendons in my feet tightening up and the muscles in my legs as well and tendons too if I sit for a little while or in the night when I sleep sometimes waking me up and in the mornings I have to put on my flip flops to help with the pain, well NOT anymore, YIPPEE!!! For the last 3 days NO pain at all and I’m so excited!!! I’m looking forward to the rest of the program! I’m taking my time in reading your book The Prime. I’m taking notes and will go back and read it again I’m sure! I’ve already shared your book and my results with 3 of my close friends and one of my sisters thus far! I’m so excited! Again though unsure about whether to continue to take the vitamins or not because I’m just now getting to where I am eating and really wanting to eat. My body is hungry now and that makes me smile!! I’m not just talking about once a day, I’m talking about more often and I’m excited, but I’m not fully there yet soooo I’m wanting to make sure I’m getting the vitamins and minerals I’m needing. Anyhow, thank you and I’m looking forward in hearing from you! Thank you for your book, it’s awesome!!!
What a GREAT story. You should continue the vitimins for how while your gut is still healing. Would you mind if I use some of it in one of our upcoming newsletters?
Thanks,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
Thank you for responding and no I don’t mind if you use any of it, sorry for the grammatical errors, I was in a hurry. Anyhow, I’m experiencing the detox for sure through headaches and having to use deodorant which I don’t have to do often. Really excited about the gut detox. I love fresh ginger and make a ginger tea with it often with my juicer. Is it okay if I juice my ginger and add it to my tea rather than boiling pieces with it the tea mixture?
I’m excited about the Prime juices and the the Prime broth. I already make my own broth from free range chicken and buy organic for when I run out. The juices, they sound so delicious and it helps change up the ones I drink now.
The Turmeric and Cayenne I’ve been using for a while because of their medicinal purposes and in hopes that it would help with my psoriasis that showed up 23 years ago when I got pregnant with my first child, left and came back with a vengeance while pregnant with my second one and I’ve worked hard to keep them under control since, though sometimes not always successful so I’m hoping that the Prime will help in alleviating it all together, though it’s thought to be chronic as you well know and a product of rheumatoid arthritis though I don’t have the arthritis my grandmother did. I aim to NOT get it or psoriatic arthritis either, another reason I look forward to your program. I do want to say again thank you because now there is something that I can stick with that’s natural and I feel comfortable in doing. I hate chemicals and go to great lengths not to take a medication if I can help it.
Anyhow, I’m excited and again I thank you and again I do not mind you using what might encourage and help others.
Thanks,
Katherine
Hi Katherine,
Thanks!
Yes, it’s ok to juice the Ginger and add to tea.
Psoriasis background. Uusually a womans immune system gets surpressed with pregnancy, so autoimmune issues tend to improve a little. Then, after you deliver, the immune system gets ramped up so you can give your immunity to your baby via your breast milk. Unfortunately, that tends to ramp up and worsen autoimmune issues. Not sure if that’s what happened to you…
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC,
Thank you for responding!! AWESOME about the ginger and if that’s what happened to me concerning the psoriasis then so be it, I’d do it all over again! I been blessed with 2 handsome, loving, kind and caring young men and so in the end it was worth it! 🙂 Again thank you for you help and for my new healthy life!
Sincerely,
Katherine
Hi Dr. Chaudhary – we did create a FB support page and the link is here if you’d like to join and let all your followers know! xoxo

Hi Karen,
Yes I joined the group. I’m planning on just monitoring from the side as it’s your group. I may chime in just in case I see something that needs my advise…
Dr. KC
Fantastic!
I have spent a month on each phase and just started phase 3 with the guggul. I’ve taken it 3 or 4 times and have suddenly developed a full body rash that is very red and itchy. (hands, feet, & neck/head are not affected). Could this be a reaction to the guggul or something else I might have eaten? And any suggestions on how to hurry it along to healing or getting the toxins out of my system?
Hi Deb,
The Guggul can sometimes be a little too heating for some people. That being said, it is an important herb. You could stop taking it temporarily until the rash goes a way. Then restart it at only 1/4 or 1/2 the dose. Then we can see how you do.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi! I’m very interested in starting the tea. However, I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy with Cataplexy when I was 26. I currently take Nuvigil and Temezapan. Is there anything I should do differently because of this diagnosis and/or because I take these drugs?
Thanks,
VC
Hi VC,
Unfortunately, that is a little to medical of a question for me to answer via email.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I’ve been doing Stage 1 a few weeks feeling good seem to be eating less naturally, much less carb cravings.
A little confused…page 156 refers to cardamom in Prime Tea? Don’t see it as a tea ingredient…please explain
Hi Kathleen,
The cardamom pods are separate from the tea. They are used simply in times of intense sugar cravings. You simply suck on the whole pod for 10-15 minutes (up to an hour).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
I have started the Prime and am in my second week. At first my appetite decreased but in the last few days I have become so “hungry.” I crave food all the time. Now it feels like I’m really off kilter and can’t return to the state I was in at first. Any suggestions? I am trying to write down what I was feeling or thinking just before the cravings came. At first it seemed emotional or mental but then became physical.
Thank you!
In the book I talk about this on page 156. Trying using the cardamom pods as described and see if this helps.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi there! I am getting ready to start stage 3 soon. I am wondering about when to take the guggul? I know it says once in the morning and once in the evening. Would it be appropriate to take it in the morning with Ashwagandha/Brahmi and then in the early evening with the Ashwagandha/Brahmi again or later with the Triphala/fiber for the evening dose? I am sorry to bother you with this simple question, I’ve tried rereading a few times and I’m not sure what to do. Thank you in advance.
Hi Laura,
You can take the Guggul at the same time as your Ashwagandha and Brahmi.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
Wow, what an amazing book! I have a question, I am within the first few days and I am experiencing nausea and loss of appetite. I am a healthy eater, have always gotten my fruit and vegetable daily quota, and I am of average height and build, 5’8 and 143 lbs. I am doing the Prime because I received high dose radioactive iodine 20 years ago for Graves, I lived and worked in NYC during 9/11 and a few months after was unable to tolerate any chemicals after the toxic load that many of us were exposed to, then I got pregnant and my TSI antibodies came back, they have been active for 7 years, although I have no thyroid, and my immune system was suppressed for a few years and I was on IVIG. By going gluten free and eating a healthy diet I have gotten off IVIG, my antibodies have begun to come down. The Prime really seems like the answer for me as far as eliminating lingering toxins and rebuilding my immune system. But I am only on day 3 and the loss of appetite is pretty profound. Is there a chance I am already releasing toxins and it is making me feel sick? I really want to stick with this program.
Thank you,
Amy
Hi Amy,
I’m happy to see you enjoyed the book! Yes, the loss of appetite is most likely your body detoxing and it should balance out as you finish the first week. If it doesn’t, then stop the tea for one week and drink 4-5 cups of hot water a day (tea without the tea). Then you can restart the spices at 1/2 the dose. Eventually you can work your way back to full strength tea.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I recently discovered, by personal experience & further research, that Triphala can cause insomnia. In most people it requires a reduction in dose & gradual increase as the negative effect does wear off. In my case I must be sensitive to it as I was only taking one capsule & had horrible insomnia, coupled with anxiety, so I’m going to take it in the morning. I thought I’d post in case this information could help someone else.
Thanks for the feedback…
Dr. Kc
Hi Elaine, thanks v much for this info. I am prone to insomnia and am about to start the triphala (just started phase 1) . It’s good to know so I can prepare mentally in advance and swap to morning intake if needed.
Hi Imogen,
Best wishes on your Prime journey!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks, Dr KC.
I just joined the Facebook group and am feeling so thank fun to have found your book.
Will let you know how I go.
Imogen
Whoops, thankful!
Hi Imogen,
Good for you! Just keep in mind I am not affiliated with Our Prime Journey FB page– it is an independently run page. If you want to get information straight from me, you may want to consider joining http://www.theprimeclub.com.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I considered your program because I have fibrocystic breasts and also numerous benign breast lumps and psoriasis on my scalp and right palm.
I started The Prime Program seven weeks ago following very slowly and being on the tea the whole time (not always drinking it warm) . I started triphala powder just 3 weeks ago and I also drink at night flaxseeds and psyllium husk (can I have this at any ather time during the day?). Next week I am going to add ashwagandha and brahmi.
Worth mentioning is that I consume a healthy organic food without gluten and milk products and eggs very rarely.
I tried skin brushing(using a brush) a few times and last time 10 days ago and I still have a terrible rash on my chest with enormous itching that doesn’t go away and keeps me awake at night.
Since I am on this program I didn’t notice any heath improvement and I didn’t lose any weight(I need to lose around 5lb).
My question to you is : Do I really have to dry skin brush when I follow your program (it scares me that I can’t do it considering my breasts condition)
Thanks in advance,
Renata
Hi Renata,
The dry massage is important. Perhaps try it using the silk gloves as recommended in the book. They are relatively inexpensive and you may tolerate it better.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. Chaudhary,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to so many of these questions.
I’m in stage 1 and have been doing it for 3 – 4 weeks, very gradually introducing additional steps. I’m wondering about the triphala… For the first week, I drank triphala tea before bed, sediment and all, and experienced intense bloating, abdominal pain, gas, and diarrhea everyday. Not knowing if the stomach issues were due to the triphala or the flax/psyllium combo, I did an internet search and discovered that some sites recommend not drinking the triphala sediment. So, I decreased the triphala to 1/4 tsp and stopped drinking the sediment and almost immediately, the stomach bloating, pain, etc went away. As an experiment, I drank a bit of sediment last night, and experienced some bloating, stomach pain, and gas today. Is it okay to not drink the sediment – will my gut still heal properly?
Also, if it helps, I’ve been gluten free for several months (I used to eat a lot of rye but for the last 13 years have largely avoided wheat), haven’t had processed sugar in a month, and I don’t eat dairy or corn. As far as my gut goes, I’ve always been fairly regular, more so now with the triphala and flax though. It looks like I may have Hashimoto’s even though I’m a bit too thin; I also have several allergies and sensitives. I’m doing the Prime not to lose weight but rather to try and heal my gut and to hopefully become healthy and strong again.
Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Willa,
Yes it’s ok to drink just the triphala water. Some people are just more sensitive to the herb and don’t require the sediment.
Here’s to your health,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
In my case unfortunately the chest rash and itching didn’t go away . Should I stop the program for now (because there is no way that I can dry brush even with gloves)?
Also can I take flaxseeds and psyllium husk at any other time during the day?
If I continue the program do you think that the tea will work at room temperature?
There is a positive change that I notice so far I am not as hungry between meals.
Thanks in advance,
Renata
Hi Renata,
You can do the entire program minus the dry massage. Yes you can drink the tea at room temp, but not any cooler. You can take the flax/psyllium earlier in the day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I have one more question. When you make yoghurt for lassi, do you use the raw milk in its raw state to make the yogurt or do you boil the milk and then use it to make yoghurt? If the milk is left raw and then made into yoghurt, does the process of making it into yoghurt get rid of any harmful bacteria that may be present?
Thank you very much for your time.
After looking at more yoghurt recipes online I believe you bring the milk up to 160 degrees F, let it cool and then make yoghurt from it. This would kill any pathogenic bacteria, but beneficial bacterial as well. The only bacteria left would be the inoculate.
Hi Laura,
I can tell you the traditional way of making yoghurt that my grandmother taught me. Take milk and bring it to a boil (so it doesn’t matter if you use raw milk). Preheat your oven to aronund 180-190 degrees f. The you let the milk cool down until its warm to touch (105 degrees F). Place the milk in a glass bowl, then you add your yoghurt starter (the culture I use was given to me by my mother from India). Cover the bowl with a lid and then wrap the whole thing up in a towel. Place it in the oven and turn off the heat. Let it sit in the oven for 5-7 hours. When you come back the yoghurt will have set and you can place it in your fridge.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
This is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing.
Very kind regards,
Laura
I don’t normally post comments, but want to help someone else by sharing. Today is day 3 for me of the Prime and the tea has thus far tasted horribly bitter. Day one I followed instructions and “threw it” to the back of my throat staving off gag-reflex with success. Read this blog. Added a cinnamon stick and one cardamon pod to the brew. It was better but still woefully bitter with lots of manjestha power dregs. Using a heat resistant straw worked to get the swill to the back of my throat so I tasted it less. Day 3 I revisited the instructions and added a coffee filter made into a tea bag which contained the manjestha powder dregs. I only boiled the brew for exactly 10 mintues. I think the previous days I’d let it steep for at least 30 minutes while I was distracted getting ready for the day. SO much better. Not dregs and the bitterness isn’t taking my taste buds hostage.
Coffee filter, 1 cardamon pod, & a cinnamon stick.
I believe I can do this!
I’m happy to see you were able to work something out that works for you!
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. I just started the program too. After almost two weeks of taking the manjistha (I put 1/2 tsp in lukewarm water and drink), and drinking the tea, I am noticing I am getting serious hot flashes. I am 50 and in peri-menopause but haven’t had hot flashes before as I am still bleeding and producing ample estrogen. Does Manjistha create heat in the body? Separately, I am also noticing bouts of panic attacks when I have trouble breathing. Both new since starting the manjistha. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Hi Dana,
In some individuals Manjishta can be a little too heating. Go ahead and omit it, but keep up with everything else, including the dry massage. This will keep the lymph moving.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi – I’ve been doing the detox for 5 weeks. I was at a very healthy weight prior to starting and was at my lowest since having three children. I started the program because I wanted to remove toxins and feel healthier. However, since starting the detox I have gained 5lbs and feel very bloated and uncomfortable. My clothes are feeling tighter and I’m feeling frustrated. I have never had regular bowel movements (every 3-5 days) and I still don’t have a bowel movement every day. So I haven’t moved to stage two based on your instructions in the book. I also increased the triphala as noted to try in your book. I drink the tea throughout the day but my mug doesn’t keep it piping hot and often times its room temperature when I drink the second half – not sure if that is part of the problem. I really don’t want to continue to gain weight on this program. Do you have any advice because I would like to drop these five pounds and stop feeling bloated. I don’t want to stop the program as I have noticed a small difference in my desires though I still choose many of the same foods I did before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Ginger,
Having daily bowel movements will probably be key in your case. However, sometimes increasing the fiber can worsen the bloating. I would suggest you change the psyllium to 1 teaspoon Inulin plus 1 teaspoon ground flax seed every night. The Inulin is a soluble fiber so it should cause less bloating. Also try placing the tea in a thermos to keep it hot all day as apposed to warm/ room temp.
Let’s see how you do with these few changes.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Doctor! I would like to thank you for your program, I feel better just drinking the tea….I can’t wait to incorporate more of your program and fix my brain fog, not to mention dropping some weight. Thank you ahead of time. I see the success stories and I know this is what I’ve been waiting for! Sincerely, Bella
Hi Bella,
I’m so happy that you’re trying The Prime. That tea is the best!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
Thank you for writing this amazing book. I really enjoyed your story. It’s wonderful that you were able to incorporate your grandfather’s medicine into your practice to help heal people (rather than medicate)!
I was diagnosed as having an inability to detox via methylation. Pounds have crept on my body over the years. Dieting and exercise don’t work. I’ve tried and can be very committed. I already eat organic, whole foods and recently gave up coffee and alcohol (for most days anyway). After ready your book, I’m convinced the weight is an issue because toxins are being stored away in fat. I have high hopes that your Prime program will help me detox and lose weight! I’m on day 3 and so far, some mild detox symptoms. I love, love the tea! I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
I’d like to start my mom on the Prime program but she just took a round of medication for a parasite – enameoba histolyca. The medication wrecked her gut. She’s not eating much and can’t tolerate any fiber. She’s already nauseated so I hate to start her on anything that will make any of her symptoms worse. Can you recommend a gentle way to get her started? Her Dr tried to put her on manjistha pills and it was just too much detox for her.
Also, have you found the program to help with restless leg syndrome?
Thanks again for your wonderful contribution!
All the best,
Karmin
Hi Karmin,
I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the book. Your mother can start with just 1/2 strength Prime Tea and nothing else. Eventually she can work herself up to full strength tea, then add in 1 step at a time at 1/2 strength. If she can’t tolerate the tea, then just hot water all day (tea without the tea).
Yes The Prime can help RLS by reducing inflammation and promoting deeper sleep.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary,
I have been on Phase I for the past week and have noticed an increased amount of itching followed by what seems to be an intense histamine reaction after I scratch…more itching, localized skin swelling and redness. Is this reaction an expected part of the detox ?
Hi Stephanie,
It most likely is part of you’re body detoxing and it should resolve with time. If it doesn’t get better, then you should see your doctor as it may be independent of the program.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr Chaudhary
Can the program help with burping issues during meals? Also if you have vata issues is the juice still recommended since it is raw? Also can you suggest which herbs to eliminate for a pitta vata constitution. Thank you!
Hi Sapana,
Yes it can help with gas. The juice should be ok since the fiber has been removed. As far as which supplement to eliminate, it will be difficult to answer as it’s an individual thing.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I have a question – I’ve recently been told I have “chronic thyroid disease’ after having an ultrasound read due to several tests showing low TSH. So, technically I am hyperthyroid. I did do the detox and stopped after 4 weeks at stage 3 after finding out about the thyroid issue. I’d like to start up again in the fall from the beginning. Which parts should I eliminate in an effort not to aggravate the hyperthyroid? Is there anything I should add in its place? I never lost weight on the detox (which I really wanted) but did feel better overall and especially feel more in touch with my emotions and who I am as a person. Thank you in advance.
Hi Laura,
You would want to eliminate the guggul in stage 3 as it can stimulate the thyroid. Ashwagandha is stage 2 will be ok as it’s an adaptogen for the thyroid and not a stimulator of the thyroid.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr Chaudhary
Can you please recommend the best place for Panchakarma in the US as well as in India?
Are there any organic places in India?
Also what is the best length of time for Panchakarma?
Thanks!
Sapna
Hi Sapana,
The three places in the US are:
http://www.TheRaj.com
http://www.suryaspa.com
http://www.ayurveda.com
In India I’ve been to:
http://www.maharishiayurvedaindia.org
and I’ll be going to:
http://saradaayurveda.com/ (but I hear this one is very rustic).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
How long should you go for?
It depends. I traditionally go for 1-3 weeks.
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I am very new to The Prime and just started the tea, however I think I made it too strong and now have experienced terrible headaches and intestinal crampy feelings. Could it be due to the tea? Should I cut back and only drink 4-5 cups of hot water minus the seeds for a few days and then gradually begin again? I find the headaches are too severe without medications just to get through the day….not sure if it is related or not. Very excited about the program as I have Palindromic Rheumatism and often have to take oral prednisone to get through my flares, so I imagine my toxcity is abundant. Thank you for your wonderful book! Will keep reading and posting.
Hi Megan,
Yes it sounds like the Tea was too strong. Your plan of doing just water and then slowly introducing the seeds is a perfect idea and is what I would have suggested you do!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I have drinking the Prime tea for several days and love the taste and the way I feel after drinking it.
Yesterday I started adding the manjistha powder to the tea. The flavor of the manjistha is very difficult for me. Do you have any suggestions for how to make it more palatable? Or should I just mix the powder in a smaller amount of liquid and take it all at once?
Thank you so much,
Jody
Hi Jody,
When you make the tea with the Manjishta, you don’t need to consume the silt that is left over. If you’re doing that, then go ahead and stop and see if you can take the tea. Otherwise, you can use 1/2 the dose.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I’ve been on the Prime since May 2016–1 month on Stage 1 and now 2 months on Stage 2. I don’t need to lose weight, however, I’ve lost about 5 lbs and feel I look too thin (I am 5’4″ and now weight 102 lbs).
In stage 2, I haven’t taken the Prime Juice or Prime Broth, however I just found the Bone Broth at a new health food store, so I will be doing that now.
Would you say that the weight loss is due to not getting the nutrients from the Juice and Broth. I’ve been eating cooked vegetables and having heavier meals at dinner and slightly lighter at noon.
I don’t know want to proceed to Stage 3 with the guggul
or manjishta until things stabilize.
I did have the skin itchiness and hotness in Stage 1 and always had regular soft bowl movements daily and have had mild symptoms with this program…….just don’t want to lose too much weight. I don’t eat gluten, dairy and processed food and have as much protein as I can with each meal (I am Vata).
Thanks for considering my questions.
Hi Myra,
I agree don’t add the Guggul or Manjishta. I would suggest you start the Bone Broth as it can help with absorption of nutrients as well as the juice.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I LOVE your book and have recommended it to all my friends. It makes so much sense!
My question for you is I have low blood pressure and a hypothyroid and am wondering if I am ok to take the ashwagandha and Brahmi in stage 2 and Guggal in Stage 3?
I really want to gain all the wonderful effects of this program as I have already been experiencing detoxing from Stage 1 and it’s wonderful!!!
Thank you in advance for your reply ????
Hi Katie,
Yes! The Prime herbs work great for hypothyroid and shouldn’t lower your blood pressure. That being said, you may want to start at 1/2 dosages for a week before increasing it to full dose.
So happy you’re enjoyed the book!
Dr. KC
Thank you! You are awesome and inspiring, thank you!!!!
🙂
I am just starting the program and am trying the tea slowly as I started getting headaches – so I backed off on the amount of tea per day and will gradually increase. My question is if I make the 5 cups and only drink a cup or two per day at first, can I keep the other three cups and keep it at room temperature or how long is the tea good for and where’s the best place to store it – in a thermos?
Hi Lori,
It’s always best to have a fresh batch of tea daily, but you probably can have it the following day and it would be OK.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC:
Love the Prime! I am in stage 3 and find that almost everything I have been doing is helping me. I find I crave the tea in the mornings. I love the taste. I love the taste of the psyllium husks/flax. There are 3 tastes I am struggling with: the ginger gut flush, the manjista powder and the prime juice. They are very strong to me. Any advice for taming the intensity of these?
Hi Carrie,
Your body may not need them if you have a lot of pitta in your physiology. The ginger and manjishta both can increase pitta. In the Prime Juice, you can cut out the lemon (also increases pitta). If you want to continue the ginger and or the manjishta, just reduce the dosage in 1/2. Keep in mind that you don’t drink the manjishta silt that is left in the tea.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Dr. KC,
I got your book as a birthday gift and I am into week 4 of stage 1. I have also started a exercise program to get fit and lose weight.
I initially lost around 6-7lbs in the first week, but nothing since then, though I feel that I am losing the fat. Also the first 3 weeks my energy levels were great, but this week I have experienced the 2pm lethargy inspite of taking the tea. Also experiencing the sugar cravings as well. I am hoping that this is temporary and will go away as I start stage 2 next week.
My wife is handling the prime a lot better and is continuing to lose weight steadily. Her energy levels have seen a much more dramatic spike as well.
Sincerely,
enigma
Hi Enigma,
Yes we can see fluctuations in symptoms. This is called the “therapeutic crisis”; sometimes as our health improves, the symptoms return. Just stick with the program and the symptoms should go away. I love it when couples do The Prime together.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC,
I’m just a few days into Stage 1 and find that when I go to lay down at night, my body aches. Especially my back and legs. Is this to be expected?
Hi Susan,
This can be detox symptoms as this is common when people first start Stage 1.
Also, Have you considered joining the Prime Club? It’s a special program designed specifically around The Prime book. I always like to recommend it to people who are reading The Prime book because the program follows the book and it’s built upon support and community.
The 16-week program is an online class, which makes it easier to fit into a busy schedule. But what I like the most about the program is the one-on-one time you get with one of our amazing coaches and your peers. You have a support system that answers your questions every step of the way. We have had hundreds of success stories come out of the club, so I would encourage you to learn more. The next class starts September 19th! https://theprimeclub.com/join-today/
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi – I am a pitta and am in Phase 2 of the program. One question: I still love my one cup of coffee in the morning and then start drinking my tea after breakfast. I have animals so have a lot to do in the morning before I eat.
Hi Linda,
No need to stop your coffee on The Prime 😉
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I started on the Prime tea last week. On Friday, I noticed sharp pain in my back which went away over the weekend (when I wasn’t drinking the tea). I began drinking the tea again this week on Monday. Today (Wednesday) the sharp pain is back (between ribs and hip). I am wondering if the tea may be bringing to my attention the possibility of kidney stones? If so, should I reduce the strength of the tea? Any suggestions?
Hi Ginger,
Sorry about delay in getting back to you. I would cut out the seeds and just drink 4-5 cups of hot water a day (tea without the tea). Then each week, add 1 seed at 1/2 strength at a time. That way you can tell if any particular seed is something that doesn’t agree with you.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
HI Dr!!
I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with polyps in the colon. I would like to refer her to your program as I believe it would be very beneficial. Is there anything contradictory in the program that we should be concerned with? Thank you in advance for your response :))
Hi Kristina,
The Prime would be excellent for your friend. After being on Stage1 for a month, he/she should increase the fiber/ flax to daily instead of every other day as tolerated. This is because fiber is great for polyps.
Your friend may also want to consider joining The Prime Club too as it will build on The Prime (www.theprimeclub.com).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC!
I am going on week two of The Prime. I was so glad to see in recent comments that some of the symptoms I’ve had this week are pretty common. (Headaches, slowed down BM’s, feeling yuky and tired). I have MS and my mom suggested I try The Prime to help with my fatigue and other symptoms. She has been doing the prime for about a week longer than me. My mom really really really does not like the Manjistha Powder in her tea but failed the fake fat quiz. Is there a way she can get this into her system so she can still get all of those wonderful benefits? Also, is it ok to continue taking Miralax along with the Tea to help with BM’s?
As far as I go, thank you for writing such an amazingly easy to follow guide for better health and wellness. My hopes are so high for ridding myself of all of the symptoms of MS!
Hi Sara,
Happy to hear you’re enjoying the book. In my practice, I used many of the same concepts in The Prime on my MS patients. They had excellent results, with some even having plaque regression. You should do really well on the program!
For your mother, she can forgo the manjishta powder. However, if she does skip it, then it is very important that she stays regular with the dry massage. Yes you can continue the Miralax, but you may need less the longer you do The Prime.
Both you and your mother may want to consider joining http://www.theprimeclub.com. The Prime Club builds much more on the concepts of The Prime.
Best Wishes,
Dr. KC
Thanks so much!!! One more question from Mom.
Where we live in Texas, we don’t have good vendor in our area for bone broth – is it ok to use powdered and if so do you have a brand recommendation? Or do you recommend ordering from somewhere and what is your recommendation?
Best wishes to you!
Sara Beth
Hi Sara Beth,
I probably wouldn’t use powdered bone broth. You can order from http://www.bonebroth.com (they will mail to you). Or you can get it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_14?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pacific+foods+bone+broth&sprefix=pacific+foods+%2Caps%2C349&crid=15DS8YTC2MDD1
Sincerely,
Dr. Chaudhary
Hello Dr Chaudhary,
As everyone has said above, The Prime is an amazing book! I have been drinking the tea for about a week. I started with Triphala last night. One fourth of a teaspoon is what took with 2 cups of water. After about an hour I was itching very badly in my arms and my body was very warm (almost like a fever). Is this an allergic reaction or just a reaction of the detox?
Hi Dorrah,
Happy to hear you’re enjoying the book. It probably is a detox symptom. Skin reactions are very common when you start the herbs in The Prime. Keep an eye on it. It the symptoms worsen, just simply omit the triphala for a week or two and continue everything else (tea and dry massage).
You may want to consider joining The Prime Club, it’s great for issues like this and gives lots of support. http://WWW.ThePrimeClub.com.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much for your time and feedback! You are an answered prayer in the medical system we have today! All doctors should practice the way you do! Thank you for making such a huge change in my life and health!
🙂
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I am just starting stage 1 of the program, I can relate to and understand everything you describe in the book and feel quite positive about how it will help me.
My question is regarding parasitic infections in the gut – is the prime addressing / cleansing the presence of parasites over time as part of this detox, or is this something which should be done in addition (I’m looking at Kulturedwellness.com and the herbal remedies they offer, the candida blend and biofilm release in particular).
I recall you mentioning in the book about your experience, so I’m wondering if you would recommend or support the use of additional herbal treatments to help eliminate the presence of parasites- and if so, when would be the most effective time to include them in the program?
Regards,
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca,
The Prime isn’t parasite specific, but it will help balance your gut microbiome as you deal with the parasites. In Ayurvedic medicine we often use cleanses using Neem (needs to be done under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner) to deal with parasites. I usually recommend doing a cleanse first fallowed by The Prime. You could also start Stage 1 and do it at the same time as whatever parasite cleanse you end up doing.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chaudhary
Thanks for your time Dr. Chaudhary!
Regards,
Rebecca
Hello Dr. C,
I started your program today on the recommendation of two friends who are seeing fabulous results. They can’t say enough good things about the program! Anyway, I sipped on tea in late morning/afternoon and got so tired I had to lie down for a bit. Then, I went off to work and was fine. I started sipping tea again when I got home about five hours laterand I again got so tired I could barely keep my eyes open. Could the fatigue be a result of the tea? (I’m dealing with Lyme disease and all sorts of other health issues…) If so, any suggestions, as I already deal with debilitating fatigue some days. Ugh! Thank you so much!
Hi,
It may be a detox symptom. The body sequesters toxins and when you detox, those toxins can be mobilized, thus causing fatigue (especially in Lyme disease patients). You can try drinking 4-5 cups of hot water for 1 week (tea without the tea), then add in the seeds, but only 1/4 teaspoon (1/2 strength) for 1 week, then full strength tea.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you, Dr. KC! I went down to 1/4 teaspoon on my own, and that seemed to help. But…I’m having other issues with detox…my arms and fingers and feet and legs are swollen, and I’ve gained a couple of pounds since starting the tea. Ugh. It’s nothing new, as my body seems to have a lot of trouble with detox, even though I support it. i think i’ll try your suggestion of hot water and then 1/2 strength tea. Thank you again!
Great! let’s see how it works.
Dr. KC
The triphala is such important part of your program but I am experiencing acid reflux & increased heart burn when I take it. I tried taking it the morning but the symptoms have not decreased. Is there something else I can take instead? Also the tea (which I enjoy) causes my stomach to make very loud noises all day so right now I am just drinking hot water.
Yes, you can add Acibalance from http://www.mapi.com 1 tab twice a day and continue the triphala at 1/2 the dose.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi! Its been a long time! After my quick weight loss of 15 lbs last February I plateaued and then slowly gained 10 pounds back over the course of a year. My mom, sister, and best friend all bought your book and all have noticed some degree of improvement in health, so we know your program works. Admittedly, with summer travel and other issues I didn’t continue the program as well as I should have so I take full responsibility for gaining the weight back. My bloating and constipation continue to be under much better control. I take triphala most days, and make prime tea a few times a week. I had started getting the herbs from Organic India and noticed their product: Wt-Balance. Is that something you recommend and if so, how would you suggest incorporating it? I would like to drop those 10 pounds again!
More importantly, and urgently, my teen daughter needs to lose a lot of weight. She will NOT drink Prime tea, and hates all tea but loves coffee. She is willing to take any supplements/herbs however, so I was wondering if Wt Balance will help her or if there is anything else you recommend for someone who really needs to lose a lot of weight (at least 50 pounds) asap for health reasons. She is pre-diabetic and we have a family history of heart disease and diabetes. She will be seeing an endocrinologist soon – waiting for a January appointment. Sorry for the long letter. Thank you for your help.
Hi Rebecca,
I thought I answered your email last week, but I guess I didn’t… Sorry.
Organic India is a really good company, but I am not familiar with that actual product, but it certainly may help.
For your daughter, go ahead and do all the supplements in The Prime, minus the tea. Instead of the tea, have her avoid all cold drinks and try to drink 4 cups of hot water a day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks! I appreciate it. I hope you know that I am still in much better health than I was and am very grateful to you even though I slacked off a little! Your book made me “functional” again! Thanks for the suggestions for my daughter. When does the club membership open up again?
Thanks,
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca,
Thank you for sharing… anytime I have someone who’s health improves form The Prime, it makes me feel so happy! I’m going to be stepping away from The Prime Club for a while as I’m doing lot’s of international travel. I think we’re doing one last one next month before that happens… You can contact The prime Club admin by sending a question through the following link:
https://theprimeclub.com/contact-us/
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I am enjoying the audio book for the 2nd time and finally going to give it a go, is it possible to send me the PDF file to my email? [email protected]
Hi Jason,
Unfortunately I can’t as that info is under the control of the publisher (Penguin). A file should have downloaded in the audiobook folder when you purchased the book.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC! Thanks for your response last month. I’m now able to tolerate all three spices in the tea, and I’ve successfully added in the triphala. Thank you!
Here is my question: My body cannot tolerate grains (except some basmati rice and non-gmo corn in small amounts). And my body responds poorly to both psyllium or flax (inflammation). Is there an alternative? Although I can’t eat most seeds (millet, buckwheat, amaranth, etc.), I can tolerate chia seeds…
Might you have a fiber recommendation?
Hi L,
Happy hear it worked out. Yes you can use Chia seeds, but try also using 1 teaspoon of inulin to substitute for the psyllium. Inulin is a soluble fiber derived from chicory root.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much for your reply!
🙂
hi dr kulreet
i hv started taking this tea abt a month ago. and i use lot of these spices in my everyday cooking. just a quick question. my grandson who is 4 has food allergies. can this tea help him too in fighting with his gluten and tree nut allergies ?
Hi Pushp,
Yes the Tea (1 cup a day) will be safe for him and may help w/ his allergies But it’s best just to avoid those foods at this age.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary, I’ve been on the prime diet since August and on Phase 3 for almost 8 weeks. I saw a significant reduction in inflammation originally and all other digestive issues have been steadily improving. However, the inflammation has returned within the past 2-3 weeks. I’m still following all the steps and have made no significant changes in my diet during the past few weeks, so I don’t understand what has caused this. Any recommendations?
Hi Stacey,
The Guggul in stage 3 actually supercharges all the other herbs. So many times people will get a return of symptoms during stage 3. It is because it is removing deeper levels of inflammation. It is as if you’re now getting to the next layer of inflammation. If you can tolerate it, it’s best to stick with it. However, if you can’t, then reduce the gugul dose in 1/2.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Kulreet
I recently purchased the prime and have read and re read certain parts. Its really an eye opener.
I am consuming triphala as well as physillium husk together in curd after dinner. I also add some sugar to give it a better taste. Is this ok?
thnaks
Hi Sarbinder,
In general you don’t mix Triphala with dairy. They are not compatible. Best to take fiber and triphala by itself (with water) before bed.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
ok, thanks
Is powder form better from a tablet/capsule form as a general rule?
The taste of powder makes it unpleasant to consume.
The bad flavor is actually part of the treatment. With pills you skip this important step, so the order of effectiveness is:
Triphala Powder
Digestone (Trihala plus Rose Cabage, to increase effectiveness)
Other Triphala tablets.
Hope this helps,
Dr. KC
Thanks. I have started having triphla with warm water before bed as per your suggestion.
Going forward, can Brahmi and ashwagandha be consumed together with water or they need to be taken separately?
thanks
Sarb
Together …
thanks
I have 2 general questions
(1) How to take Ashwagandha – Ghee/honey, honey, milk ?
(2) Brahmi comes in 2 forms (Gota and bacopa) which one is better?
I have one diabetes related question
How would following your methods help a diabetic patient
Do you do personal consulting?
1) Pill form of Ashwgandha can be taken with warm water. Powder form can be taken in warm milk.
2) Bacopa
The Prime works fine with any diet, including diabetic ones. I would just follow the plan as outlined in the book. However, in your past I would suggest taking the pill form of Ashwagandha to avoid any blood sugar spikes w/ the milk. I am no longer seeing patients and have moved onto research.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr Chaudhary is it ok to make a large batch of tea that will last a few days? I would heat the daily portion on the stove each day. Not sure if it can be stored and if so how long and room temp?
Thanks,
Kelly
(On day 1!)
Hi Kelly,
Best to do a fresh batch each day to avoid oxidation of the tea. But do what ever you’re schedule permits.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC,
Can I drink the tea iced?
Thank you,
Jenn
Not really…
Dr. KC
Hello..
I am excited to start this program soon!
i already have a big bag of good quality Triphala powder..
Just wondering what you recommend? i really would love to not have to buy capsules..
Is it better to put the powder in capsules myself or ok to just take the powder form? and if so…what are the amounts for that..
THANK YOU!!!!
Hi Suzanne,
I actually prefer the powder, so you can use 1/2 teaspoon as your dose. Happy to see you liked the Prime!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary-
I contacted you here days ago about having started The Prime (only 5 or 6 days in) but noticing my myasthenia gravis symptoms getting worse – only ocular symptoms. It became untenable and I’ve since stopped the triphala. My neurologist here in Atlanta is fairly conservative – do you know of a neurologist in the Atlanta area who practices a blend of western and eastern medicine. I really want to do The Prime to help with my digestion, but I need to keep my ocular symptoms manageable. Thanks for any advice, Angela
Hi Angela,
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone it Georgia. Stay off the Triphala for now, but try and stick with the tea at least. Then later you can try a very low dose triphala (1/2 tab at night).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I’m still taking the tea, because I really like it. I’ll let this bout settle and then try again. Going down to half a tab might be the way forward. Thank you!
Let’s see what happens 🙂
Hi Dr KC,
I have just started the prime and so far I really like the tea. My gut IQ tested moderate. I do have one concern and that is I only have one kidney . Should I go thru the stages slower and is there anything I should avoid?
Thank you for your time.
Hi Kim,
Yes, start slowly. Perhaps start everything at 1/2 dose for a week, then go to full dose. Also, perhaps have your primary care doctor monitor your kidney function.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr.- I started the prime tea and triphala about 5 days ago and I feel it may be disrupting my sleep. Is this possible? I thought I might try taking the triphala in the morning in case it is the culprit in the sleep disruption. Thank you
Hi Kim,
This rarely can happen. Taking the triphala in the morning should help.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello,
Got a quick question. I’ve been drinking the tea for about a month now and am amazed at what it’s done for me. Finally got myself a juicer and will be starting that very soon. My question is: will drinking the juice in the evening be an issue? I know it would be preferable in the morning however where I live has some pretty thin walls and I don’t want to wake my neighbors with a noisy juicer.
Thanks
Hi Mike,
Those thin walls get you every time! You can have the juice in the evening. This is actually preferred for people with lots of Kapha.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Does this interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills?
Hi Lamay,
The Prime can increase fertility is the only answer I can give.
Dr. KC
Hello!!
The prime is going pretty well.. Just completed week 2..
I’m having some of the detox symptoms for sure and while I haven’t seen many signs that things have really changed, I can feel it’s coming. I tested to go on the moderate track but think I may give my body the extra time and do the gentle tack..
Question for you please…
I notice on the nights that I take the psyllium and flax that my belly is very full right after and remains that way , and when I wake up in the night to pee I still feel very bloated and gassy. I’ve been waking up feeling this way as well.. And stays like that for the morning. ( and have been quite tired)..
I am having regular bowel movements so it doesn’t feel like I’m backed up.. I have been using fenugreek seeds from the beginning..
If you have any suggestions please let me know.. Thanks
Hi Suzanne,
Yes, going slow is always better, especially given what your experiencing with the fiber. The bloating usually is an indication that you have a small bowel dysbiosis (abnormal bacteria in the small bowel). They are digesting the fiber creating gas. I would suggest you omit the psyllium and flax for 1 week (cont the Triphala). Then the following week, just add flax seed. Finally on the third week add psyllium (triphala, flax, and psyllium).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks so much! i appreciate your response..
I was away so unfortunately missed 3 nights of triphala.. so seems like my body is trying to catch back up (really saw a difference in my digestion when i wasnt taking it)…
One more quick question please…
I know that the amount of time in the stages from the quiz is just a guideline… I feel like things are changing a lot for me… sometimes i feel like i have more energy, and other times i feel like i have a LOT less… Just to clarify..i really should stay in stage 1 till that evens out and that i notice and stabilization of my energy levels? (often i feel like i can sleep 8 hours and am dragging all day, and especially still get tired after eating even light meals).. THANKS SO MUCH!!
Hi Suzanne,
You don’t need to necessarily wait until all of your symptoms have abated to move onto the next Stage. Stage 1 essentially prepares you’re digestion to accept the herbs in Stage 2. When in doubt go slow, but if things are settling down, then you can move onto the next stage.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr. Chaudhary,
I have been doing the Prime since September and loving it! I have lost about 12 pounds but mainly I feel very healthy, have lots of energy, sleep well, my mind is sharp and quiet and my skin is clear and glowing. So Thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating this program and writing your book. I have recommended it to many people.
I stayed about 8 weeks on Stage 1 and 12 weeks on Stage 2. I have been now on Stage 3 for about a month. I do feel some of the symptoms of a heavier detox but my question is more specifically on the effect that Guggul can have on the body, as it can act like estrogen. A year ago I had a lumpectomy due to DCIS. I was told that my form of breast cancer, although at stage 0, was estrogen positive/sensitive. Now, I have heard that Guggul, like soya, is not recommended for people with that condition. What is your opinion on that? I am taking 2 tablets daily of VPK Guggul (483 mg each)
Thanks in advance for your response!
Helena
Hi Helena,
How wonderful to hear how well you are doing! Yes Guggul can have an estrogen effect, but you should be OK for two reasons. Firstly, the dosage that is recommended is not too high of a dose and secondly you’re on Ashwagandha as well. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, so will have a balancing effect on all of the hormones.
However, just to be on the safe side, perhaps only take 1 Guggul tab a day. If there is any additional doubt, you can always omit it all together and simply double your dose of Triphala, Ashwagandha, and Brhami. This is because Guggul essentially supercharges all of the herbs you are already on. Also, it goes without saying, that you should always follow the advise of your doctor.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much for your prompt and helpful response!
Sincerely,
Helena
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I just started Stage 1. I bought the vpk digest tone triphala
plus pills. I am unsure how many pills to take at night as the bottle does not specify how many milligrams each pill contains. Your book says to take 1,000 milligrams per night.
How many pill is that?
Thank you
That would be 2 tabs at night.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you for your response.
Hello!
My boyfriend and I (both in stage 2) have been having pink/red colored urine after drinking the juice (we have only had the about 3 times a week)…
i have read online that this can be a potential sign of iron deficiency or purely of weak digestion…
do you have any concerns for us that we are experiencing this?
thank you!!
Hello Suzanne,
I’m not concerned. However changes in urine color after ingesting nutrients may be a sign of a nutritional deficiency. I would stick with The Prime.
Hope you’re enjoying it!
Dr. KC
Hello Dr.Chaudhary,
I just recently started Stage 3. My sugar cravings suddenly are back, I’m feeling hungry a lot and developed severe bloating and acid reflux. I just came from nowhere and is hitting me pretty hard.
The reason I started the Prime was because I had really bad candida overgrowth and constant digestion problems. Those problems improved a lot on the Prime, but now, in stage 3, they are back with a vengeance.
The only two things different I can think of is that I have now started taking guggul and I changed my probiotic to a much better probiotic. I am taking Dr. Ohira’s probiotic which I started about 10 days ago. Other than that, I have stuck to the Prime religiously.
My type is definitely VATA from your quizzes. I am very frustrated now because I have gained 3 pounds, look fatter than ever, am so bloated and my stomach is definitely hurting.
Can you please help me with some advice? I don’t want to give up now that I have come so far with your system.
Thank you so much !!!
Oxsana
Hello Oxsana,
It could be either the Guggul or the new probiotics. Changes in Probiotic brands can cause temporary shifts in the micro biome as your body gets use to it. The Guggul maybe to heating for your physiology. I would suggest you go ahead and stop the Guggul. Then after 1 week you can do one of two things. Either restart the guggul, but at 1/2 strength or, stay off it and then double the dose of the triphala, ashwagandha, and brahmi. This should help you get back on track. Also, make sure your driving The Prime Tea regularly.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi There! I am on my first week of The Prime Tea and after doing a quick beet colon test realized my digestion is very very slow. I am hoping the Prime tea helps me with this issue and helps me figure out weight gain despite eating well and exercising. My one issue is that the tea makes me feel a bit queasy. I actually like the taste of it but day three rolled around and my body literally felt averse to drinking it. are these normal detox symptoms or should I continue on?
Thank you in advance if you have time to answer!
All the best,
Meghan
Hi Meghan,
Yes these are detox symptoms and should get better soon. However, if they don’t, then eliminate all seeds and just drink 4-5 cups of hot water (tea without the tea). Then each week, add in 1 spice at a time, until 3 weeks later when you’ll be on all 3 spices. That way you can determine if it’s one particular spice you’re not tolerating.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Great advice! Thank you so much!
Hi Dr. Chaudhary, is it common for Guggul to cause an irregular menstrual cycles? I’ve been taking it since October and have had more frequent cycles. I stopped taking it recently for about a month, then started back. The month I was off the Guggul I had a normal 28 day cycle. However, as soon as I started taking it again I was back to a 21 day cycle. Thanks!
Hi Stacey,
It’s not common, but it is possible. I would suggest you just omit it for now.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr Chaudhury,
I just finished the book and want to start all the family on it. We are all in pretty good health, but suffer from mild digestive issues on some level. We did the test and all came out for the fast track. My children are 16 and 18 1/2 years old, and in good health but both suffer from mild acne, and my older daughter has suffered from recurrent ringworm and a few yeast infections the last 8 months. We have not treated either with western medicine but always opt for natural remedies. I really do believe that the issues are gut related, thats why I feel them doing some version of the Prime diet will help. Are they both old enough to do the diet as you recommend or would you suggest they take a more refined/shorter version. Would they need to do 4 cups a tea a day or just 2, etc. Would welcome your advice. We are all Vata pitta, with the male both more pitta dominant and the women more Vata dominant. I also want to commend you on the book, and I am very excited to see the results with my family.
Hi Julia,
Happy to see you enjoyed the book. They should both be old enough to do The Prime. However, I have found the younger the client is, the less herbs they need (their physiologies are so resilient). I would suggest doing 1/2 a dose on the entire program.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
thanks so much Dr Chaudhury. Also I have been taking Magnesium daily as I find that it really helps with my bowel movements and when I don’t everything slows down. Would it be advisable to discontinue the use of magnesium whilst I go through the detox to try to establish a normal digestion without the added use of magnesium? I have been taking 400-600mg of magnesium every day. Also we do take extra vitamin supplements, complex Vitamin B, vitamin D, and Omega’s and for myself and my daughter Iron supplements (due to low iron levels). would it best to discontinue with these also whilst we go through the detox and then review once we have finished. Would you recommend that most people once they have gone through the detox and their digestion is working well, and they eat a varied healthy, organic diet, need very few extra supplements? thanks so much for your time and consideration, I am truly appreciative of this 🙂
Hi Julia,
I would suggest you don’t stop the magnesium altogether, but rather reduce the does to 200-400 mg an see what happens. Then you can slowly wean off of it. You may still need supplements after The Prime; however, usually in lower dose and fewer in number.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Good morning Dr. KC.
I have two questions.
1) I’ve been on stage 1 for four weeks and am ready to transition to stage 2. I feel good after getting through some of the detox symptoms. However, I’ve gained weight, about 3 pounds. I do all of the elements in stage 1. What advice do you have?
2) My husband is allergic to raw apples and raw carrots. What do you recommend for him with the prime juice as we move into stage 2?
Thank you very much.
Hi Alison,
For the weight gain, make sure you’re doing the dry massage I recommend in The Prime. The program mobilizes toxins which then requires you to have good lymphatic drainage.
For the fruits and veggies. You can substitute pears for the apples and simply omit the carrots and use any other veggie you’d like.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC,
Thanks for your prompt reply and apologies for delay on my end, I’ve been out of town and unplugged.
My husband is allergic to anything in the rose family which also includes pears. Could he substitute bananas, strawberries or blueberries for the apple/pear? I should have specified that in the first post.
As for me, I’ve been doing the dry massage along the way and still gained weight. Since i posted, I’ve felt really full and uncomfortable and had minimal appetite and had been eating only because I have a busy schedule and do crossfit so wanted to be sure i wasn’t taxing my body any more than it was. I stopped the tea yesterday and drank hot water instead and feel much better. I’ll do the same today and then start back on the tea tomorrow. Interestingly, I lost 2#, water weight for sure. Is there anything else I should be doing? I start phase 2 tomorrow.
Many thanks for your help.
Alison
Hi Alison,
He can use berries instead of the pear; don’t use a banana.
For you– stay off tea and just drink hot water for the next week. Then restart the tea, but only 1 seed at a time each week. That way you can see if you’re reacting to one of the seeds in particular. Then you can just omit that one.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you very much for the guidance, Dr. KC. My husband and I appreciate it.
Best,
Alison
Dear Dr. KC,
I would like to get rid of ama with The Prime, but I am already (too) skinny so I do not want to risk loosing any weight. I have bloats and constipations but I do not have cravings. Is the Prime for me? Should I follow it as it is, or skip some steps or herbs so as not to loose weight?
Hi Ana,
The Prime will still help. If you don’t have weight to loose, then you won’t loose any more.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi, I just started the Prime about a week ago. I usually put oil on before I get in the shower in the mornings. Since I have been dry brushing I have been questioning this. Do you think it is a bad idea to put oil on after dry brushing before shower?
Thanks!
Also, I forgot to include this on my last post: Is it ok to use chia instead of the flax?
Hi Natalie,
Yes chia is fine. Also the oil pulling will also be OK. If anything the dry brushing will enhance the oil pulling.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I have added Manjistha to my tea due to my lymphatic issues per your recommendation. However, the powder does not dissolve and ends up at the bottom of the cup. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Hi Arancha,
The powder isn’t supposed to dissolve, and you don’t need to drink the silt. The nutrients will be in the tea.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello Kulreet and thank you for making this lovely programme.
I’ve spent longer than I needed to in Stage 1 and it was very straightforward; nothing very much major happened except that my intermittent heartburn more or less disappeared.
Today is the first day of Stage 2 and I took the juice about an hour ago – 10am. Now I feel really quite nauseous. I also have a headache which is rare for me.
Cucumbers, in salad and so forth, often make me feel a bit nauseous. But it was such a big part of the juice that I thought I should add it.
Also, by ‘beet’ do you mean the red root vegetable that we call ‘beetroot’ over here?
What should I do? It turned out to be a whole pint of juice – is that too much?
Thank you.
Hi Lizzie,
Yes beets are the same as beetroot. You can omit the cucumber and perhaps substitute celery. 1 full pit be a lot, perhaps only drink 3/4 of a pint. If the nausea continues and if your using lemon, then omit the lemon next.
I hope this helps, and I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying The Prime,
Dr. KC
Sorry – I should have said that I live in Britain.
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I’ve been reading the questions/answers here for the last 30 minutes and I am SO IMPRESSED that you take the time to do this! My cousin in Texas did The Prime and it totally changed her life so she’s been telling me to do it. I live in Vancouver, Canada – so it’s already crossed one border in our family! I’ve had Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since I was 10 and I’ve tried practically everything under the sun, so I’m hoping this will be life changing for me too. I’ve been on Stage 1 for 2 weeks so far, I think I’ll do a month total – I know I have a lot of toxins in my body.
My question is: Can I put the manjistha powder in a veggie capsule and take it that way instead of drinking it? Every time I add it to my tea, I end up not drinking it all together because I don’t like the taste and consistency.
Thank you!
Hi Claire,
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you; I was out of town. When you add the Manjishta to the tea, you don’t drink the silt. You filter it out and simply drink the tea. Try that first, if not, then you can encapsulate a small capsule and take that once a day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
HI Dr Chaudary,
I was drawn to doing your Prime after aviewing an interview on Ora WEelness since you talked about your migraines. I have suffered migraines for 30 years. I “officially” started the Prime on the 14th of may after dong just ht etea for a few weeks until I got the book etc. I started having lots of bad migraines a week after the official start and the addition of the manjistha powder. Now, the weather in the SEattle area has been so crazy changeing al th eime that barometric pressure is alo a factor but could the tea or detox be causing more migraines? I also have a stomach ache every morning when I wake up for some reason. I also need to lessen the fiber as it is causing some issue. I also have ulcerative colitus in remission and fallow the SCDiet which doesn’t really allow fiber like this. I notice in your book you really don’t address migraines much. Is it because those with long standing genetic disease are not necessarily “cured” by the Prime? Many of the woman in my family down through the generations have had migraine. Thank you!
Hi Julia,
I don’t talk about treatments for specific disease in The Prime, because it is a book written for the general population as opposed to an individual consult. The Prime does help migraines, however in some people with very long standing histories, I start even slower. For instance, only the tea at 1/2 strength for a month. Then full strength tea for month. Then adding in the triphala with the tea for a month… This slower detox can lessen the exacerbation of symptoms.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you. I stopped the manjistha powder and the migraines stopped. I waited two weeks and added in a 1/2 dose and had a headache the very next day so clearly I can’t add this until I detox a lot longer. I am good with the tea as is and I have dropped weight even though I didn’t have a lot to lose so I am very happy. I am still on stage 1 and 5 weeks on the program. Thank you for your reply :o) Julia
Hi Julia,
I’m happy that we were able to figure it out. Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
You are a gem! It is so rare in our world of busy professionals that someone like you takes this much time to help so many. This is truly a service to humanity and I thank you so much :o) Julia
Hi Julia,
You’re going to make me cry. The joy I get from helping others is the best feeling in the world!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I planned to start The Prime yesterday. Discovered I am allergic to Triphala or one of its ingredients. I had an anaphylactic shock reaction (itching tongue followed by hives, swelling, itching and redness over my entire body).
Took 150mg Benadryl and EpiPen. Two hours of reaction before it reversed. My only known allergies are to sesame products (including the oil) and sunflower seeds. Any thoughts about what triggered this reaction? Needless to say I will not use Triphala again. The manufacturer was Himalaya.
Hi Wanda,
Sorry to hear that happened. Triphala shouldn’t have anything related to sesame, so you’re probably allergic to one of the components as well. Instead of the triphala, do a mixture of psyllium, ground flax, and ground chia at night.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello!! thank you so much for this wonderful journey so far..
I have been doing the Prime for almost 6 months now.. moving slowly, in stage 3 still.
I have seen some results.. but a couple of things have not subsided and have gotten worse.. and wanted to check in with you about them.
I have a history of poor digestion and a bout of parasites from India.. and so it has been a common theme for me to be sleepy after a meal. for the past 2 months or so, it has been a major increase in this feeling. I dont feel very rested after even 8 hours of sleep, and then when i eat, i feel like i need a nap to get through the day. I am 37 years old. Would you say to just stick with the prime? I know that things can get worse before they get better, but just a little concerned as it has already been 6 months. (some improvement in digestions but also quite an increase in intestinal gas/slight pain in the early mornings).
THANK YOU!!!
Suz
Hi Suz,
When I have a patient with a history of parasites I like to use Neem cleanses. However, It’s not something I can recommend via email. You may want to add Neem 500 mg 1 pill a day for the next 2 months and see if that helps. Neem usually resets the digestive system.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
OK thank you!! I will say however that I went through an herbal parasite cleanse years ago (i had the parasites almost 10 years ago and things have been much different since I did the cleanse. I should have mentioned how long ago it was).
with this in mind, is there anything else you would recommend to me? ANy other major reasons why i am so exhausted after eating?
THANK YOU !!
Hi Suz,
It’s just to hard to say via email. There can be many reasons for the exhaustion after eating. Mostly it’s due to Insulin spikes after eating.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi, I have been in phase 1 for about a month now. I do tea by boiling approx amounts of herbs and let it heat up for 15 20 mins. ( until I get ready). I have been experiencing more diarrhea( I take magnesium supplement) and battling with fatigue. Do I have to use precise amount of ingredients and heat it for 5 10 mins only? I am Indian, so I am used to these spices all my life. Also, the book is very enjoyable read. Not many doctors admit that medical science may need to branch out.
Hi Mai,
You may want to back off on your magnesium supplement. It may indicate that your digestion is improving and need less magnesium.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC,
Thank you for reply. I will see if I can reduce magnesium supplement. I take it for Vestibular Migraine. I have issue with fatigue somedays because of it but nothing like what I am experiencing now. I wanted to know if the extreme fatigue is expected with this detox even after a month in Stage 1. If it is, should stay in stage 1 until I start feeling energetic? Thank you.
Hi Mai,
Yes, I would suggest you stay in Stage 1. Perhaps an additional 2-4weeks.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello! Quick question, if I may. Is it possible to gain weight through this process but still be detoxifying? I am in Phase II and do feel better; all is well with following through with Phase I and II components, but there has been zero loss of weight since beginning Phase II last Monday but, in fact, a bit of additional weight and this is not menstrual. I’m finding this weight gain is triggering a lot of anger and frustration for me today.
I need to add that all signs are normal otherwise: daily BM, frequent water in-take on top of tea, no other medications/supplements taken.
Hi Angie,
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Some weight gain can occur in Stage 2. Go ahead and stop the Ashwagandha for 2 days, then restart it at 1/2 the dose. That should help.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you! Should the reduced dose of Ashwagandha be ongoing through the end of The Prime?
Also–I’m strong Pitta (and it’s SO HOT in Missouri in the summer), should I stick with Prime Juice 2 since PJ 1 has some ingredients on my “avoid” list?
Hi Angie,
Yes, just stick with the PJ2 and stay cool. For people with a lot of pitta in very hot environments, you can increase your consumption of cucumbers (even as a plain juice) and melons.
For the ashwagandha, you will need to play by ear and see how you do. I would eventually suggest you try the full dose, but don’t push it.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Doctor KC,
My husband and I have just started reading your book and are really interested in it. He has gall stones and diverticulitis, and I have hypothyroid. We are in our 60’s. Is it safe for us to do this program?
Hi Denise,
Yes it should be safe. However, he should probably do the herbs at 1/2 the dose (the tea he can have at full strength). Then if he does well, he can increase it to full strength. Happy to hear you’re enjoying the book!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I am just finishing Step 1 on The Prime. In preparing to move on to Step 2, I realize I cannot find anywhere in the book how much Prime Broth is in a single serving. Can you enlighten me?
Hi Nancy,
Usually people will have a bowl full. There’s no specific amount as some people will have a little more or a little less.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Kulreet, you are are such a gift to our world. Thank you for writing your book and being so generous with your knowledge.
My husband and I are in stage 3 and have been for the last 2 weeks. Our response to The Prime has been pretty “textbook” in a nicely gentle way. It hasn’t been overly difficult for us yet we are noticing that we are drawn to healthier food choices and have reduced our sugar intake. This is a huge relief to me as I could not control my chocolate addiction; I had to eat some every day. Now I can pass on it with ease. Yes! In addition, my ability to handle stress has increased. I am way more relaxed and can handle my high stress job with greater ease. This is wonderful!
One of the reasons I chose your detox was a motivation to be healthier AND to lose -hopefully- 10 pounds. In the last 1.5 years I gained about 12 pounds as I went through menopause. With the Prime I haven’t lost any weight.
With the addition of guggul, I haven’t really noticed any change. Sometimes I am tired and sometimes I have a bit of a headache but that’s pretty much it. My bowels are moving regularly but not any more substantially in the way described in the book when guggul is added. I increased guggul to two pills twice a day this week and haven’t noticed any difference. I am sure I have some toxins to get rid of so I am not sure what to do.
Ultimately I want to be healthier, more toxin free and to lose the weight. Perhaps it is a matter of time in stage 3 or perhaps I also need to increase the guggul even more? What do you suggest, Kulreet?
Many thanks.
Heartfelt best wishes for your continued success.
Lucinda
Hi Lucinda,
It may be a little more complex in your case. Women who are perimenopausal or menopausal often can be in a state of estrogen dominance. This requires usually an endocrine evaluation. That being said, not all GYN and Endocrinologist treat this. Do you have access to a naturopathic doctor or holistic doctor? Perhaps they can check labs on you? The treatment is often some Progesterone.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
how can i learn where you are presenting and or practicing healing at this time?
Hi Renee,
I’m seeing patients at The Chopra Center up until next May (www.chopra.com).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr K.C.,
Day 1 of your program and I am excited about the possibility of feeling better again.
Is there a significance about sipping the tea all day long? It would be easy for me just to drink the 4-5 cups in the morning in one fell swoop.
Thanks, Tina
Hi Tina,
It is better for you to drink it through the day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary,
I am in my second week of Stage 2, after spending almost 8 weeks in Stage 1. I feel better than I have in years!
To my surprise, though, I am having a very difficult time tolerating the Prime Juice 2 in the mornings. It is very hard on my stomach, and I don’t feel very well afterwards because of the problems digesting it. None of the ingredients have ever bothered me previously; nonetheless, I have experimented by lessening the amount of lemon, eliminated the cabbage, and substituted spinach for the kale. I have tried to eat some protein beforehand, and/or afterwards. I take ginger after drinking it.
Regardless of the different combinations I have tried, my stomach is still very uncomfortable after drinking it. Do you have any suggestions?
Also, I am curious. I had significant problems with bladder leakage. After only one week of the Prime Tea, the problem almost disappeared. Is there a correlation, or is it simply because I am drinking less caffeine?
Many thanks for your research, your book, and taking the time to answer all of our questions! I have benefitted so much from all that you have done.
Hi Charyl,
Yes less caffeine, and The Prime tea is very anti-inflammatory to the bladder.
I would suggest you cutout any lemon in the juice, it may help significantly….
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi 🙂
I started taking Triphala a couple of months before I found your book and started reading it. I’m doing stage one now and still taking the Triphala and have added on the tea. I also started doing the fibre drink at night (using 1/2tsp of both psyllium husks and flax meal) until my system adjusts to that. Two quick questions: Is there an easier way to get the fibre, since I’ve been having trouble getting the gritty mixture down? I also wondered if since I don’t have many sugar cravings, if I really do need to make the Prime Juice? My kitchen is small and I really don’t have room for a juicer. Any suggestions you have would be most helpful. Thanks for all the good work you do. Your book is the first one that actually makes sense to me.
Hi Bea,
If you can’t tolerate the fiber picture, you can sprinkle ground flax and Chia seeds on your foods– taste great on oats. If you do that, then you can forgot the psyllium. The Prime juice is an important component in repairing the gut, but if you don’t have space, then it will be OK to forgo.
Happy to hear you enjoyed The Prime,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaundhary 🙂
Thanks for getting back to me. I love the Prime tea. I will have to forgo the Prime Juice for now for now, because as I said I do not have space for a juicer.
I’ve stayed on Stage 1 of your program for about three weeks and have done the fiber thing every second day but have only used 1/2 tsp of flax and psyllium. My digestion has been a mess for a long time, so I’m going slow and it does seem to be helping. Today I tried 1tsp of each in water and will see how it goes before I move onto the next stage.
Putting flax in my oatmeal every second day would work, but I’m not a huge fan of flax, because the seeds swell and get stuck between my teeth. Could I possible use flax in my breakfast and do psyllium in water at night? If not I’ll try the flax/chia mix in my oatmeal.
Also, since I’ve been on your program for a few weeks now, I don’t seem to be losing any weight. I have food sensitivities, so my diet is restricted and relatively healthy. Do you think that when I go into stage 2 my weight will start to drop?
Thanks again for this amazing work you do.
Bea 🙂
Hi Bea,
Yes you can put the flax in your breakfast and do the psyllium at night. It should work just fine.
The first stage is just to prepare the body for the Stage 2 herbs, so yes, things should progress (weight) as you continue through the program. If you’re going to Vtamix, perhaps add some lower fiber content veggies like cucumber.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. KC 🙂
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I will try all that you’ve suggested. I have two other questions. I have IBS and until I modified my diet (because of food sensitivities), became gluten/wheat free and started on the Triphala, my bowel movement were all over the map, ie: I never knew if I was going to have a day of the runs, or 5 or six regular or hard bowel movements. The Triphala has helped a lot with this issue, in as much as I now have more normal bowel movements and hardly ever have bouts of the runs.
What I want to know is, how many bowel movements a day are normal? When I upped the fiber the other day I had five or six full bowel movements throughout my day once again. Most annoying.
My other question is about tension like headaches. Is this normal when starting your program. I’ve had one off and on for the last few weeks. What can I do to ease them up (pain and tenderness in the muscles across the top of my head). I have PMR and Fibro and it could also be from those. I have no clue.
Thanks again for answering so promptly and just for being here and doing what you do for us all.
Bea 🙂
Hi Bea,
It depends for what is normal number of bowel movements. 1-4 is normal, but it can increase when you’re detoxing with the triphala/ fiber combination.
The low grade headache is most likely a detox symptom and should get better as you progress through stage 1. If it worsens, then seek medical help.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC 🙂
Another quick question. I am finally not having any bouts of loose stool, which is good. I’m taking the Triphala, and drinking the tea, but now when I have a bowel movement, some of it comes out much more normal (long solid log), while the rest of it comes out as large pebbles. I try and drink at least four glasses of warm water every day and don’t know if I’d be able to fit more than that in along with the tea. Is this normal to have bowel movements like this? Thank you again for your time. You are one super woman/doctor!
Bea Good 🙂
Hi Bea,
If someone has a significant amount of vata, yes, they can have movements that you’re describing. You could try and incorporate some more chia seeds into your diet.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thanks, Dr. KC! I’ll give that a try. You’re wonderful to get back to people like you do. I really appreciate you and the work that you do.
Bea 🙂
🙂
Hi I am really hoping you will respond to this – I have been doing the Prime for 3 weeks religiously – I am 25 pounds over weight (I do not over eat and follow a low fat vegan diet mostly) and it has made me gain 5 pounds – the first week I lost 6 pounds – 2nd week it all can back – 3 week I am up 5 pounds – I feel sharper mentally so I dont want to stop this -but I cant stay on something that causes me to gain weight – any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Nancy,
anyone who is having fluctuating weight like this, usually is having Lymph issues. You may want to make sure you’re adding manjishta into the Prime Tea. Also, make sure you’re doing the dry massage daily.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
HI
I am just finished with your book and am going to start with The Prime soon.
I just have one question before I start.
I have just started CrossFit again and now I found your program.
Will it be OK for me to continue with CrossFit while on the prime?
Robert
Hi Robert,
Sure can! The Prime won’t interfere with exercise programs.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. KC,
I am on week 2 of phase 1. I’ve been through menopause but never stopped having hot flashes, albeit greatly reduced. My hot flashes have increased and I’m generally hot. Thoughts?
Hello F,
If you’re using Manjishta in your tea, then you can stop it. Temporary hot flashes are not uncommon as they are a sign of detoxing.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I bought the tea and also the mahindra. Is there by any chance any thing else you can add to it, to where it is not so bitter tasting. Otherwise, I am just going to have to do my best to swallow it. Ha.
It’s hard to tell what to add without knowing the person’s dosa by personal evaluation.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I boil the tea with 1″ of ginger root the night before and then leave the ginger in the thermos until the tea is gone. I’ve found the tea to be much more tolerable that way. And I’ve never liked tea.
Hello Dr.Chaudhary. I just started your program. I’m on day two, I’m a endo/meso (Kapha/pitta). Having more frequent bowel loose movements , and a burning in pit of stomach after drinking tea since starting . I add 1/2 tsp ginger powder to tea asper magazine article, however I noticed book says 1/2 inch fresh ginger as an optional couldthis be the cause. Also, I suffer from a genetic eye disease(kerataconus), I’ve had 3 keratoplasty’s in the last 20 years , will the prime assist with improving vision and slowing stops progression of condition, also I was prescribed venlafaxine for a bout of situational depression. Will the detox help me to get off the venlafaxine, which I only take now to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
Hello MissA,
It’s hard to answer specific medical questions via email. The ginger maybe too pitta aggravating for you, increasing and burning.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you for replying.
I have been reading your articles on the Ayurveda detox tea. i wasn’t able to find whole cumin or coriander, so I bought the ground. is this okay? I have been using the ground herbs along with the ginger. Please advise. This the first time i have used this detox before. I am just in the beginning stage of the detox. Please advise if i need to buy whole verses ground. Thanks
Hi Jannine,
The ground herbs most likely will be making too strong of a tea. I would suggest you try and get the whole seeds. They’re all readily available on Amazon and can probably be shipped right too you.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I have been doing the 4-5 cups of tea per day, religiously for 3 weeks, taking 2000 mg of Triphala, and the fiber every other day. I have not noticed any detox symptoms (aside from some back pain at night, but I figure it is a flare-up or possible re-injury from a back injury last year). Is this normal?
Also, I could only find Ashwaganda at Walmart in 800 mg capsules. Can I take 1 capsule in the AM and another in the PM, along with the Brahmi? Would this be too much Ashwaganda?
Hi Cassie,
No, it wouldn’t be too much Ashwagandha to be taken w/ the brhami. Be careful the ginger isn’t too strong causing increased agni (heat).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I love this book and have bought 2 copies for friends/ I am on day 6 of phase 1 and totally exhausted. I am craving sugar and oil I am a Vata Pita almost half and half
I had vocal cord surgery 2 weeks ago and wonder if this is part of the exhaustion. I want to start exercising again but afraid I will be even more wiped out
Hi Alice,
If the surgery was done under general anesthesia, then you’re probably detoxing from the sedatives (in your body for weeks). I suggest you spend an extra 2 weeks (6 weeks total) in Phase 1. Don’t push the exercise right now as your body probably can’t handle it. In the book I talk about using Cardamom pods for sugar cravings. Perhaps read those couple pages again as a refresher on what to do.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Question: is it normal to GAIN weight during stage 1? I don’t remember reading anything about it in the book, but I have gained 5 pounds in the last 3 weeks. If this is normal, can you tell me why? Thanks.
Hi Chris,
It is not typical, but it can happen. In these cases it usually means that the person gets lot’s of toxins. Make sure you’re doing your dry massage regularly.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hello dear dr Chaudhary 🙂
Thank you very much for writing down this very intuitive way of detoxing. I’m from Poland and since I found your book I recommend it to my family, friends and strangers:) I’m going to give one for sure to my m mom who is a neurologist herself. I wanted to ask you about manjistha – should it be a powder, I can buy in Poland capsules (250mg) and cosmetic powder which i’m not sure if I can eat. Are capsules ok? I wanted to ask you as well if the detox will be still efficient without the meat soup, I really am going to avoid this one. Thank you once more time!
Hanna
Hi Hanna,
I’m happy to hear you enjoyed my book. Yes you can take Manjishta capsules (250 mg should be a good dose once a day). You can avoid the chicken bone broth soup and use vegetable broth instead.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you very much and good luck with your passion 🙂
Hi Dr. Chaudhary!
I was on Stage 3 for about 2.5 months and I decided to increase the Ginger Gut Flush to twice a day, increase the Prime Curry to twice a day, and increase the guggul to 1500 mg (500 mg 3 times a day).
After a week and a half, a red, itchy rash broke out on my legs (mostly the thigh area and ankles). I stopped everything for a week, let the rash heal, and then re-introduced everything from Stage 1 and 2. After two more weeks subsided, I started to take ginger once a day and I reintroduced guggul, but only once a day at 500 mg.
Unfortunately, after about 10 days, the rash reappeared.
I am assuming this side effect is caused by guggul and I have stopped taking it.
What can I do? Guggul was working wonderfully and I miss taking it. Is there something else I could try?
Hy Cheryl,
Yes it most likely is the guggul… It can be too heating for some people. Stay off the guggul for at least 2 weeks. The reintroduce it, but at a much lower dose. Try starting at 1/4 strength, then slowly increase it to1/2 dose, then full.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you Dr. Chaudhary!
And thank you for writing The Prime. It has made such an incredible difference in my life. I truly appreciate it.
🙂
Dear dr Chaudhary
Is it ok for me (just started second phase) to eat 350 mg of brahmi and 400 mg of ashwagandha (I got these amount in capsules) or I should maybe take double dose?
Thank you very much ! greetings form Poland
Hello Hanna,
Those doses should be fine. Just take 1 tab twice a day of each.
Nice to hear from Poland!
Dr. KC
Thank you ! Thank you many times:))))
Dear dr Chaudhary
I am preparing for 3rd phase and again here in Poland I could find amla but in capsules (500mg each) and I think I will just take it straight from the capsules to the 3rd phase curry but how much in this case?
Thank You very much:)!
ps. is there something like prime club?
Hello Hanna,
You can use the Amla 500 mg twice a day. There is a facebook page you may want to look at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ourprimejourney/
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you:) I will join the group. Can you just tell me if the curry is ok without Amla when I take to separately in capsules?
It should be fine…
Dear Dr, Chaudhary do you have any recommendations for sinus congestion mostly forehead sinus congestion?
Hi Essie,
Unfortunately I can’t really give specific medical advise to people via posts.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I’ve subscribed but am unable to access the Gut IQ Quiz. The site directs me to the subscription page again. Any suggestions?
Hi Patricia,
When you subscribe, you should receive a confirmation email (if not check your junk box). Then once you confirm, you’ll get a second email. In that email (around 1/2 way down) is a link to the quiz.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
hi dr. chaudhary – just sent yu email too. since starting the prime i have gained 10 pounds. finished stage 1, and one week of stage 2. saw your video on hormonal imbalance and that is everything i am experiencing at my perimenapausal age. what do i add to the prime supplements to feel better and especially lose the weight gain on prime.
It’s a little hard to tell via post, but you may want to try Vitex (Chaste Tree)…
Dr. KC
Hi Dr. Chaudhary! Your book is brilliant and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing it and offering your amazing gifts to the world. I have a quick question. I’m just in week one of Stage 1, and am doing it all. Yet I haven’t really experienced any detox symptoms other than more regular BMs. Is this normal? Or should I increase the Triphala? I am taking 1,000mg of it. Thank you again!
Hi Sonia,
Not everyone gets detox symptoms. However, you can safely take 2,000 mg of triphala.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear dr Chaudhary
Can you tell me if something like Suddha Guggul is ok? I can not buy from Poland guggul you recommend, it is unavailable :((
Hi again Hanna,
Yes Buddha guggul is fine… It just means purified guggul.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I have a question about juicing. I am a westerner who lives in rural India, most of the vegetables we get in our village are from the Punjab, and as you probably know, full of pesticides. No organic veg is available… on top of that my digestion is still at the point when I eat raw unpeeled vegetables I have severe diareah. How do I go about with the juice portion of the diet? Thank you
Hi Maura,
Sorry I have no ideas for your situation…
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
HI there! I’m am wondering if there is any guidance on doing the Prime while taking anti-depressants The diet seems so based on brain chemistry which makes sense, but seems like there would be some interaction of already taking SSRI drugs? Has anyone experienced this or any advice?
Hi Karen,
There aren’t any specific guidelines in changing The Prime while on an SSRI. However, you may notice you require smaller doses (under the guidance of your personal doctor) as the gut microbiome improves.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr Chaudhary,
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your book – a great combination of modern scientific knowledge and time tested Ayurvedic system. I bought the book for detox, hoping that it will help with my allergic rhinitis of last 2 to 3 years. I am 63, a long distance runner, 172 cm tall, weigh 68 Kg (brought down from 78 kg over a period of one year through eating when hungry and chewing thoroughly). Ayurvedic and homeopathic consultations did not bring lasting relief. My Gut IQ is 23, no lymph issues, and Main Pitta, 50% Vata, and 50% Kapha as per your tests. This Kapha part must be recent because I rarely used have cough or cold.
Within two weeks of stage 1 my rhinitis w as much less but skin on face and particularly around started breaking and itching a lot. This too reduced over next 3 weeks. ( I have been following stage 1 in all its components)
I recently started stage 2. Prime juice causes temporary uneasiness ( I take glass). I enjoy Prime broth. I started with Ashwagandha and Brhami choorna 1 teaspoon each morning and evening. However with in two days my eyes started slightly watering and I felt that my sneezing is coming back. What can be the reason? What should I do?
Thank you for your wonderful book and hoping to hear from you. Thanks for your time.
Best regards
Hemant
Pune, India
Hello Hemant,
I think you maybe taking too much Ashwagandha for your digestion to handle. If your digestion isn’t very strong, then Ashwa can cause more ama (toxin) build up.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you so much!
I have weak digestion ( has been impaired since I suffered from Jaundice and chronic amoebic infection 40 years back and was treated with Homeopathic medicine)
Will follow your advice.
ok. I would do The Prime as outlined in the book.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you
🙂
Have gifted your book to couple my friends who looking for weight loss.
Sorry to bother you again.
I continued with Prime as per your book. I am now in Stage 3 for about 4 weeks. All was going on well until 4 to 5 days back when my allergy symptoms started appearing gradually and since yesterday I started suffering from nose running and sneezing etc.
I can’t point to anything specific – no change in lifestyle or travel or new food items.
What should I do?
Hi Hemmant,
It’s most likely the guggul. It supercharges your other herbs, so it can increase detox symptoms. If you can, try to stick with it, and it should improve. If you can’t then go ahead and stop the guggul for a week, then restart it at 1/2 dose. Also you probably should be doing a Neti Pot to clear the toxins.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dr. Chaudhary:
I have been in Stage 1 for almost two months. I definitely feel the positive effects thus far. However, I’ve yet to be able to take Psyllium Husk and Flaxseed because of the almost diarrhea like bowel movements I have. Can I still move to Stage 2 without taking the Psyllium Husk and Flaxseed or do I need to continue until I remedy this situation? For further context, I don’t feel sick, so I’m unsure what is happening. However, I typically get less than 6 hours of sleep these days due to work.
Hi Jennifer,
You can omit the psyllium. However, try and continue the 1 teaspoon of flax, and try to add 1 teaspoon of chia seeds. If that works, great, otherwise, omit everything and move forward to Stage 2. Happy to see you’re enjoying The Prime!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I love your book and diet. I am in Stage 3 I started it this week – I have noticed maybe I am bloated non of my skirts are fitting they are all too tight is there a reaction sometimes to weight gain or bloating as part of the detox. I welcome suggestions
Dear Doctor Chaudhary, I left a message yesterday on April 21 re some weight gain I had experienced. I figured out what happened I had not added enough Brahmi I was only taking 200 mg. and I was getting cravings and snacking through out the day more than I realized. I went back to the book and saw I was suppose to take 1000 mg – that has made a huge difference long story short I think I answered my own question and bet the weight will come off I love the book and the program. I just got alittle sidetracked! Thanks so much.
Hi Laurie Ann,
Sorry about the delay in seeing your messages. I have very poor internet here in India. Happy to see you got the dose corrected!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I cannot see where I asked a question on April 29th 2018. Do I get notice by email when U respond?
I was asking about EDS?
& MORE about The Prime. Did you get comment??
Thank YOU Suzie
Hi Suzie,
Sorry I missed that one; I have poor internet here in India. Yes the dose of Guggul is correct. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone in the AZ area. I am happy to hear your joint paind are improving!
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr. Chaudhary
I love your book. Its one of the only regiments that I am doing every day and I have not missed a day.
My question is:
Do I add the fenugreek seeds and Manjistha powder to the tea after it has been made, or do I boil the fenugreek seeds and manjistha powder along with the coriander, fennels and cumin seeds?
Also…I currently have been boiling the fenugreek seeds along with the other ingredients to make the Prime tea….is this wrong or harmful?
Thanks
You boil them with the other seeds for both the fenugreek and the manjishta…
Dr. KC
Thanks Dr KC
Dr. Chaudhary, I am so thankful to have found your book. I’m on stage 3 and just started the guggul this week. I realize everyone reacts differently in terms of detox symptoms but I was wondering if it’s normal to feel this intense hunger which I did not have before. I’m very fatigued and getting headaches and when this is very intense I feel this urge to stuff my face lol. Your response is greatly appreciated 🙂 You are amazing. I am only taking 500 mg twice a day but wondering if I should cut back to once a day. I did not feel detox symptoms until now. Thank you and I hope you and your family are well.
Hi Maria,
Sometimes the guggul can be a little too heating. Go ahead and just cut back to once a day.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Hi, Dr. Kulreet. I just finished the second week of the third stage of Prime. My rosacea is getting worse at the thirdvstage. Any suggestions? Thank you, Rimma
It usually means that the guggul was to heating. Go ahead and omit it from your regimen.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you.
1) For me:
Will stop Guggul for a week. I had problems with Ashwagandha – you had advised me to reduce that too.
Will also do Neti.
Basically, I have weak digestion – despite my regular running activities, I hardly eat breakfast and just one chapati and sabji per meal . Had jaundice and chronic amoebic infection several decades back, since then this problem is there.
Should go ahead with stage 3 (Guggul) after a week or stay on any one stage of Prime? When allergy symptoms come they are severe and I have take anti-allergy tablet like Montair Fx which I wish to avoid.
2) about a friend ( male, 63) sedentary l;life style and history of angioplasty and has BP medicine and statins – had gifted Prime to him for weight loss.
Within a week of stage 1 , he experienced heavy urination causing pain. He has taken a break of few days.
Any advice for him?
Thank you so much for your help. I wish I could do something more to show my gratitude.
Hello Hemant,
Sorry I don’t have and advise for your friend. Yo may do well with eating Kia (Lauki) squash sabji or as juice given your history.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Thank you very much.
Have started Neti pot and will add Kia (Lauki) squash sabji to my diet.
Best regards
Hi Dr Chaudary,
I am currently doing your detox program.
My wife is breastfeeding for the past 8 months. Is it safe for her to take the books recommended doses of Ashwaghanda and Brahmi?
She is NOT doing the detox program from your book. She just wants to take those 2 supplements.
Thanks
Best if she doesn’t. Ashwagandha is a complex herb that requires a strong digestion, that is why I have it in Stage 2.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
Dear Dr Chaudary,
You say in your book to try and take Brahmi and Ashwaghanda before 6pm. May i ask what is the reason?
Thanks
Hi Kayvee,
Has to do with hormonal and blood sugar regulation.
Dr. KC
Hi Dr Chaudhary
I did 4 weeks of Stage 1 detox. And I must say that I have seen massive improvements to my food addictions and cravings. And to my mood as well. It is like night and day.
But due to travel and other commitments I did not follow any of the protocols for 3 weeks
Can I now jump into Stage 2?
Thanks again for answering all of our questions
Dear Dr. Chaudhary,
I am on stage 3 of detox. I was reading some of the detox symptoms and am worried. Is there a way to ease these symptoms?
Which stage shows the best weight loss? I have lost some weight in stage 1 and 2 but along with it came some loose skin. What can I do for that?
I am a vegetarian and have omitted the bone broth. I use Greens first green powder as replacement for the green juice due to hectic and busy life style. Since i use most the herbs (minus amla) in my daily cooking i am not using the curry powder. Do you think I will have same detoxing results with making above changes?
Thank You
Sncerly,
Ruchita
Hi Ruchita,
Stage3 guggul supercharges all the herbs. So Stage 1 and 3 is where most people loose the most weight. It’s best to use fresh juice, but you need to do what you can.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC

Hi Kayvee,
Yes, give it a shot!
Dr. KC
Dear Dr Chaudhary,
Is it possible to skip guggul from the last stage? I am having severe side effects. I have major mood swings and emotional out breaks. please advise. what happens if I stop it and just continue with stage two?
Yes you can simply omit the guggul in stage 3.

Dr. KC
Hello! I am 3 months into the Prime and its been life changing. I haven’t lost a pound yet, but I feel amazing. Finally passed the uncomfortable detox phase. Yeah!
QUESTION: How long can I stay on this Prime Diet? Which supplements can I stay on forever and which have time limits. For example Guggul: I understand can disturb estrogen levels. I am post menopausal on Hormone Replacement Therapy. Please advise. Thank you
Hi Renee,
You can stay on The Prime Tea, Trphala indefinitely. The ashwagandha and Brhami can be used 6 months on 1-2 months off. The guggul effects estrogens more in premenopausal women, but stop after 3 months on 1 month off.
Happy to hear my book has been so useful for you!
Dr. KC
Hi Renee,
I’m sorry I missed answering your question. The tea and Triphala can be taken indefinitely. The other herbs should be stopped for a few weeks every few months. The guggul should be OK for bio-identical HRT; however, it depends on ach persons specific HRT regimen and blood tests (something to keep an eye on w/ your own doctor).
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I just posted a question using my full name Renee Leaman. If you do post it on the page please remove my last name. Thank you
I just saw this email… I think I removed the post properly…
Dr. KC
Hi Dr,
I just read (and loved) The Prime. I plan to start Phase 1 Tuesday (10/16/18). I have been pursuing Ayurveda and Western Medicine concurrently as I lack your brilliant and unifying knowledge, experience, and insight (not to mention humility and approachability! ).
I have had Parkinson’s for the last 16 years. I am taking Rytary (I tolerate it much better than I do Sinemet), Azilect, and Baclofen. I also practiced TM and TM-sidhi program for 25 years until side effects of PD medicine made it not possible.
My question is since one of the main premises of The Prime is to detox and since my prescribed PD medicines probably contain some toxins, is there a risk that the Prime will detox the PD medicine as I take it, causing my PD symptoms to worsen and, if so, what can I do to circumvent this problem?
Thank you so much for all the good you’ve done for everyone, including myself! 🙂
Hi John,
I’m so sorry I missed this message. I hope you did try The Prime. The answer is that I’ve you many of these treatments with my PD patients without any harmful effects on the meds.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I am on day five of phase 1 of the The Prime. I am most interested in it because I’m convinced my microbiome was drastically changed after a severe bout of malaria while living in Uganda about 5 years ago, and a crazy yeast overgrowth afterward. I was treated for candida a couple years ago, and most of my yeast symptoms are gone, but I still just don’t feel (or look) like my old self. I gained an inexplicable 30 lbs and lost it while on the very restrictive candida diet, but gained it all back immediately upon returning to a normal-ish diet. I’m hoping The Prime helps all my good gut bugs out!
I haven’t changed my diet in the last five days since starting The Prime, as the book recommends, and was looking forward to fewer cravings, etc. However, the last four days I have been STARVING. I can eat a massive meal (because I just feel so hungry!) and will be hungry again immediately upon completion. If this lasts for the whole four months I’m on this program, I’m positive I will gain 30 lbs instead of lose it! Is this intense hunger typical? Will it subside? I can’t sustain with this kind of hunger for much longer! Any advice would be very welcome.
Thank you!
Hi Morgan,
I’m not sure I answered your comment, I thought I did…
This usually indicates you have tikshna agni (too high of a digestive fire). I usually recommend aloe juice to calm things down. 30 cc 2-3 times a day. You can mix 2 tablespoons in 1/2 cup of warm/ room temp water.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
HI. I was on a website that states to be careful with taking the Prime Tea because it’s dangerous. That the ingredients contain carcinogens and estragole, Is that true? It worries me. The site claiming this is superfoodly.com. The
Hi Jaron,
I’ve seen those comments. There is concern about the estrogen being in the fennel seeds being carcenogenic. Two things I would say to that. First of all Fennel has been used in cooking for mellenium by people without causing cancer. Secondly, estrogen is fat soluable and you’re boiling it in water, which mean very little if any of the estrogen will be in the tea at all. That being said, if you’re still concerned about it, just omit the fennel.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
I’m not sure what to make of this comment.

Hi Dr. KC,
I’m beginning stage 2 of The Prime and I have felt amazing! Although, for the past 5 days I’ve had sharp pains in my stomach in a specific spot (it feels like stomach ulcers that I had as a teenager). I’m also very tired suddenly. Could this be part of the detox process? I’m also pretty bloated even though I’m taking Manjistha and Fenugreek.
I’m telling everyone who will listen about The Prime! Thank you so much!
Sheridan
Hi Sheridan,
Happy to hear you’ve enjoyed The Prime. Sorry about the delay in getting back with you. It can e a detox symptom. However if it persists or worsens, you’ll need to see your doctor. You can also have 1 ounce of Aloe vera juice twice a day; that can help your pain.
Sincerely,
Dr. KC
